I once read a thread here about it being able to get converted by using the command prompt. But I tried looking for it again, since I forgot how to! And I can't find that thread anywhere! Help please?

Are you talking about VCD .dat files? If you are, you can just copy the .dat file to anywhere on your computer and change the extension (by clicking the file and pressing F2) to .mpeg. Make sure you go into Tools--> Folder Options and in the View tab, uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types' to be able to see the extensions.

Right Click on the file one time, click on "rename this file".Delete(.dat) and type wmv ,or mpg,or mpeg. these are just file Extensions.it doesnt mean that it will play unless the data within the file is converted.but you can give it a try...good luck
