Because you don't HAVE Starbucks coffee and you're at HOME.

You can prepare great coffees at home and pay less and that alone makes it taste better. Go to a good quality store that sells 100% Arabica beans and have it ground or if you have a grinder at home do it yourself. Make sure it's ground for the type of coffee pot or machine you have.

Next is the water, use bottled water if your tap water is not very good quality. If you have an espresso machine then pack the holder that holds the coffee tight and attach it to the machine where the water under pressure drips through the coffee and into the drinking cup. It should make a crema on top the light rich golden foam.

Now if you want to drink it this way it's called "espresso"

If you want a a combo of the milk and espresso it's a "latte"

A "cappuccino" is made with 3 layers espresso, the steamed milk and the foam on top

There are many many other drinks made from this basic beginning using flavored syrups that are reg. sweet and sugar free. Toppings of cinnamon, nutmeg and cocoa powders and even a vanilla chocolate powder.

Best of luck,

My suggestion is to use a coffee press instead of a coffee maker.
for the moment though. Adjust the amount of coffee to water ratio. Usually to get the same affect and taste of Starbucks at home. I use a little more coffee than usual. One scoop(or table spoon) per 2 cups of water. Also..Give your coffee maker a good cleaning. Run white vinegar through the machine once. Then run water through twice. That will get rid of any build up and remove and bitter taste there might be. You may also want to try different type of Starbucks coffee. The Italian blend is nice if you want a strong cup of coffee...use the breakfast blend for a milder taste.
I would also ask someone from your local Starbucks for any advice or tricks they might have. Here is a link to there site for tips on making a great cup of coffee.http://www.starbucks.com/ourcoffees/coffee_edu9.asp
Good luck!

Because the Starbucks "quality taste" is from numerous times more caffeine crammed into every cup than in actual coffee, thus making you crave more of the drink. I'd say just stick to proper coffee.

You must use Starbucks brand coffee. Make sure you have whole bean and grind it yourself. Then make sure you use filtered or bottled water. Lastly, make sure its hot enough. Most coffee makers won't brew the coffee at the 200 degrees that Starbucks does.

I have the same problem at home too.

The coffee maker you have may have something to do with this. If you are talking about mochas and lattes, those aren't based on coffee, they are made with espresso, steamed milk and flavoring. You need espresso and an espresso maker for that.
For best flavor from coffee, you definately need to invest in a french press. You can get them at any store that sells kitchen gizmos. They aren't too expensive. I suggest checking that out for best flavor from your regular coffee grounds.

Just get an espresso machine from Starbucks. They sell them there, called Barista. Comes with a neat little teaching video on VHS.

Why would you want to? Since when could Starbucks make coffee that was drinkable?

you can always buy an espresso machine for your home. they can be pricey thought for the new ones about 1000$! but it will save you alot of money in the long run!

if you just want coffee then just buy a brewing machine and buy some of their cofee and kee it in the freezer...
