is it a big deal for a south korean man if a woman is from the north?

There is an old saying in Korea.... "남남북녀", which translates to "men from south, women from north". Women from the north are stereotyped as being prettier than their counterpart in the south, while for men, it's the other way around. It's an old stereotype that you seldom hear these days. Still, I think most South Koreans view North Korean women favorably.

There are reasons for this, dating back to the Koryo dynasty. With Pyoungyang as its capital, some believe that the king of Koryo brought pretty girls into the city, and that's where they ended up, nowaday's North Korea. Others think that due to the weather and location, girls in the north have fairer skin and lighter tone. Who knows....

To answer your question, no, I don't think anyone would have problem if a South Korean man decided to date or marry a North Korean woman. The problem is.... where the hell are you going to find a North Korean woman to date?

Many Koreans make a big deal if she/he is from another province in South Korea. A North Korean woman would be even worse

YES it's a big deal!! The woman comes from no family (the way Koreans think). A North Korean woman would most likely be able to marry into a VERY poor/low-class family...and a younger son at that!
