I think men are sometimes intimidated by beautiful women (as if they may not have a chance). So it ultimately has to deal with the self-confidence of the man.

Guys assume that we're stuck up. They don't feel confident enough in their own looks or just about themselves, so they're afraid we'll automatically reject them. Being very friendly and open always helped to break the ice for me.
