This deduction was reinstated after the tax forms were printed. You can still deduct $250 of your out of pocket expenses for classroom materials, but this deduction is not shown on the 1040.

The deduction for educator expenses can be claimed on Form 1040, line 23, “Archer MSA Deduction.” Enter "E" on the dotted line to the left of that line entry if claiming educator expenses.

Your tax software may not have this deduction in it. Furthermore, as of today, January 22, the IRS is not able to process this deduction. So your choices are to wait a couple of weeks and then e-file, or to file now and then amend your return when the IRS can process it.

The major commercial tax preparers will be able to process this deduction as their software is continually updated and they can hold your return until the IRS can accept it if you want that.

Here is the IRS newswire regarding this deduction:

There is a line on there that says if you are a teacher you are allowed to take up to 250 dollars (I belive?) on supplies that you bought for the classroom.

Also, you are allowed to take off for classes that you took to get a masters (or to better futher your education). Wait for other people to give you sources.
