Get them outside and away from the TV (and video games). A couple of years ago, Cal Ripken, Jr. was spokesperson for this movement called Project Dirt or Operation Dirt or something like that and I couldn't agree with the mission more. Kids need to dig in dirt! And, keep their diet as simple as possible. All that processed food (e.g., frozen, prepackaged and fast food) contains tons of sodium, fat and preservatives. Food in its simplest form is best. Don't get me wrong, my son loves Chicken McNuggets as much as the next kid, but I only get them for him as an occasional treat.

I was going to say move out of the US...but that might not be a choice.

So then...make sure you start early with healthy food and no junk food. NO McDonald's nuggets and stuff like that and no fried food.

My niece is not yet 3yo and she asks for healthy food like carrots and salad and fruits. We know she loves chips....but we try to give her just the healthy ones, like sundried chips etc. And no soda, or drinks like punch. Give them water and real juice and milk. Chocolate, candy, ice cream, cake and pizza and stuff like that just occasionally...leave this for birthday parties when they can eat those kinds of foods.

Oh yes and very important...doing some kind of physical activity. Get them involved in sports or dance.

feed your children alot of veggies and fruits. wheat bread instead of white bread. contrary to what the other people said, withholding junk food from your children is counter productive. eventually your child will try chicken nuggets or other junk food and WILL get addicted to these. make home made junk food for your children, and add extra salt and cook it with so much grease that they think it would be gross and not tasty. It's simple reverse psychology

Set an example by eating healthy and excercising regularly. Also, educate the child. Sometimes it is not enough to say to a child to do something like excercise, you must teach them what it means to be healthy and why they should do it.

stop making TV a babysitter
get rid of McDonalds (make it seem nasty, if mom thinks its gross chances are the kids will follow the cue)
make veggies seem yummy and like a treat
never buy them a video game system
never blame obesity on others, cause it really is your fault

make them sweat (send to army school drills) - do not pamper like a slobby mother but let them enjoy the good foodies but a good idea to restrict Mcburgers, Colas and Fries (ask them to eat alternative tasty foods)
