I would definitely follow up, b/c it accomplishes 2 things: It will hopefully get you an answer on whether they're coming, AND it will bring the other parent's bad manners to their attention. I've had this situation time and time again. No matter the event, most people today don't have the good manners to RSVP. They figure they can show up unannounced, no problem, or just not show without a second thought. Very rude. Rule of thumb is to invite more people than you actually want b/c about one third to one half won't show and won't call.

I'm going go against what everyone else has said. i would leave it alone and make a few more plates and goody bags in case someone does show up but that's me. people do forget and some people just have hard time saying no thinking that you'll take it personally. it could be just matter of money or time. just my thoughts.

call but make it tactful like saying 'hey i was just wondering if your kid is coming so i can know how much cake to buy'
oh and absolutely do not settle for a maybe or an 'iffy' answer

Yes I would follow up, some parents are simply inconsiderate when it comes to RSVPing.

Call and see because RSVP isn't always an understood thing.
