whole different type of war. there are many similarities in the two conflicts, but iraq is not vietnam II. this whole thing of two radically opposed ideologies living a few blocks away is new. most people in vietnam wanted some sort of unity, not so iraq. although they share in a common origin, minor differences in their cannon fragments them as a people. they seek a division.

the problem can be traced back to the early 1900s when britain, germany, and the usa defined the borders of iraq with no consideration of the people who live there. certainly the kurds should have been given their own place. then there should have been at least two divisions giving land and status to both the sunni people and the shi'a. that was then and this is now. these folks need to work it out among themselves. plenty of room in iraq for everyone that lives there. really no room for a foriegn occupation army.

We're past that already. It's worse and because we have shown the world what losers we are, and how we are a nation of laws without enforcement, how our government preaches freedom but practices control through wiretaps, financial monitoring, cameras everywhere, photo radar, politically correct speech, and fraudulent voting practices, we have gone from the most favored nation to the most hated nation around the world.

Add to that, the stupidity of our government in allowing illegal entry into the USA and foreign ownership of our infrastructures and you will see that we are no longer the United States of America, but a country owned and run by foreign corporations and foreign governments with greed, corruption, lawlessness and illegal aliens as our largest asset.

If we don't wise up soon, we won't have a country at all.

I have read from returning soldier in a cav unit that has had tea with commoners and shieks. Played kickball with the kids.
Saddam was Sunni. Shiite wants power for once. Sunni's have no capacity to even get a job under shiite regime. So they join resistance. That is thier civil war.
Its been a few years weve been in there. Homegrown suicidal crazies come from syria and the money from none other than Iran. It is in Iran's interest to infiltrate and keep the place a mess so we cannot easily organize against them. They are a traditional enemy now of both Iraq and the United States for backing Iraq in thier war with them before.
It is Iran that perverted the word 'jihad' into something of a tangible alternate meaning for westerners to appreciate.
It is Iran who has and will not hesitate to send hundreds of thousands of their own as a mass suicide squad. It is common sense and has been for at least 2 decades the aims of Iran spelled even clearly from thier own official mouths. What more evidence do you need then to set up in Iraq to help fortify them and base continuous operations forward to where we belong to give the world a chance to avoid catastrophic war? Citing the president for his greed in oil is aside from just short sighted and boring, one thing, but in contriving attrition rather vs the world's largest exporter of this exact product immediately puts this in a different and highly appropriate light. When we enter conflict with Iran we are going to have issues, but that is what the national reserves are for. I hope we get a hold of them before the clock runs out on thier nuke program. (your higher power here) save us all. We havent seen nothing yet.
Very little similarity to Vietnam. This is very long and very deliberate. There are more ________ deaths such as home accidents annually in the United States then there are permanent casualties in and directly because of this conflict. Give me this rather than falling from a ladder. Give me this rather than a head on collision from a drunk driver. Give me this gladly rather than cancer, heart disease, ahlzheimers. But most importantly, give me this rather than your grand children bowing to the east...by law.
