I know many people say that the Sabbath was done away with, but then why is it affirmed in the New Testament? Some argue that we only need to rest in God's grace. Why not symbolize that rest by actually resting on the day he made for us? Shouldn't it be a sign of Jesus' grace and Him giving us a break? It sure doesn't sound like God changed His mind on which day is Holy to Him.
Here is the verse you can look up.

In case it doesn't work, you can look up Hebrews 4:1-13

I think my favorite part is, "Today if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts."

The disciples violated Sabbath laws created by man, not God. Jesus told them that the reason God made it, was to spend time with us and give us a break. The more you research it, the more you see it isn't on the list of do not's. It is simply the day God has given us to spend with him and ignore the distractions of the world.

Sagegranny, I was pointing out about what the Bible said regarding the seventh day, Saturday as it is also known. I was pointing out that following the seventh day is God's day, Sunday has been man's day ever since Constantine changed it. No joke.

Jason M, Are you telling me then that the Bible contradicts itself?
1Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their(Israelites) example of disobedience.
Maybe you need to read the whole thing again.
The new moons and sabbaths being described are festivals that happened to occur on certain sabbaths. That is why it says sabbaths alongside new moons and why it doesn't say The Sabbath. As in pay no attention to those tell you to follow The Sabbath.

STEVE T! My mouth is OPEN my friend. False websites? All I did was use an online Bible. The verse is Hebrews 4:1-13. Did it seem like someone was preaching a pro Sabbath doctrine contrary to the Bible? Because it was the Bible itself saying that in very clear language. I think you should spend some prayerful time researching what was abolished at the cross. Oh and read that verse again. It is very eye opening to hear that in the New Testament. You may have been told that it was only an Old Testament thing, it isn't. No hard feelings though. I appreciate your comment.

The Sabbath is important to God and if we follow God it should be important to us.
here is another verse supporting the Sabbath
Revelation 14 says that 3 messages go out to the world right before the end comes. The first message says worship the creator and then it quotes the 4th commandment.
God is calling his people to return to the commandments and worship Him as He has described. He wants His people to leave man made traditions and come back to His word.
I will talk about some of the earlier posts I must respectfully disagree with.
1) "The Sabbath is still the Sabbath, but it was made for man, and not vice-versa."
Thats right but were in that text do you get "don't keep the Sabbath." The Bible says women were made for man too, if we still need women we still need the Sabbath
2) "Why did the Aposltes violate the Sabbath by plucking grain"
Hansel has already given a good answer to this, and I would like to add the pharisees said they broke the Sabbath, but Jesus said they did not. Which side are you agreeing with Jesus or the pharisees who killed Jesus.
3) "Colossians 2:16,17 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. "
People often quote this verse without reading in context. Colossians 2:14 says "blotting out the HANDWRITING of ORDINANCES that was AGAINST US, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross"
There are 2 laws the eternal law of God and the temporary law of Moses
"They will take heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law AND the statutes and the ORDINANCES by the hand of Moses." 2 Chron 33:8
The 10 commandments were placed IN the Ark but where was Moses' law placed
"Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there for a WITNESS AGAINST THEE.
Deuteronomy 31:26
What law is Paul talking about?
Colossians 2:16,17 are talking about ceremonial Sabbaths
If that is not enough read Colosians 2:17
"Which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ."
These verses are talking about ceremonial Sabbaths like passover which points FORWARD to the crucifiction, the feast of first fruits which points FORWARD to the resurrection etc but the 7th day points to creation. It does NOT point FORWARD it points BACK to creation. "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy" Why? "Because in 6 days the Lord created the Heavens and the earth."
4) "it could be any day that you set aside for it."
God did not say "Pick a day to worship" He said "THE" 7th day is "THE" Sabbath. The word "THE" means a specific item.
The first person to say "It doesn't matter how we worship God" is Cain. Cain said "It doesn't matter how we worship God as long as we give something God will accept it. God does not care as long as you give and call it holy. Don't be legalistic Abel."
Was he right?
Is God specific about what He says.
The first and the last murders in the Bible are based on Who do you worship AND HOW do you worship.
The Sabbath is a specific day it can NOT be applied to any day we choose.
5) Hebrews 8:13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
You obviously did not read the verses before this passage because it says the terms of the New covenant
Hebrews 8:7-12 says
For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.(What was the problem?) But God found fault with the PEOPLE and said "The time is coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a NEW COVENANT with the house of ISRAEL and with the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt (Why?), because THEY DID NOT REMAIN FAITHFUL TO MY COVENANT, and I turned away from them, declares the Lord."
[Now God states the terms of the contract]
"This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts."
Old Covenant the Laws written on STONE
New Covenant the same Laws written on the HEART
no where in the text does it say anything about new laws or laws being changed
The Old Covenant- the people failed to keep their part “They said we will do it” Exodus 19:8 and they failed
The problem with the Old covenant was the people failed to keep it. There was nothing wrong with the law.
The Old Covenant was based on the people, God says “If you will...then I will” Exodus 19:5
The New Covenant is based on God, God says “I will and I will”
Where does God say that He is changing some of the laws? Where does God say that He is doing away with the Sabbath?
The New covenant, same law

We don't maintain the "certain sabbaths" we don't maintain the "ceremonial sabbaths"; those in which of the ceremonial temple sacrificial process that the pass fulfilled. So such a lot christians make excuses and twist the verses to try to disregard THE seventh Day Sabbath that has been Sabbath considering that the opening of production and is side of THE Ten Commandments. The susceptible pathetic excuses for why folks maintain sunday is quite unhappy. They do the very identical factor with the imaginative and prescient of the blank and unclean animals within the sheet which may be very evidently defined that it's for the sharing of the gospel to ALL folks>blank and unclean< Christ has made all blank> all can proportion within the gospel. Yet a few of the christian take it to intend they may be able to devour any critter that crawls throughout their plate! We are to maintain Sabbath and we're to devour healthful...A quite tricky CONCEPT that a baby can have an understanding of however those found out theologians cannot wrap their mind round some thing so sensible.

The disciples met on the first day of the week for worship Acts 20:7
Christ blotted out the hand writing of ordinances nailing them to the cross Colosssians 3:14
Hebrews 8:13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
Jesus gave a New covenant and the old one waxeth away.
If you would actually read the bible instead of depending on false information on websites devoted to teaching false doctrine, you would know these things.

Since Christianity is based upon Judisim, they held fast to the custom of the Sabbath being observed. Over time, Christians wanted to separate themselves from this, and being that Jesus rose on the first day of the week, decided to change their day of worship to Sunday.
Up until 20 or so years ago, many states had Blue Laws, in which most stores were closed. In many states you still have certain types of stores closed or items you can't buy (like alcohol). That was custom as it gave employees time to go to church.
Oh, I concur that we should take time to rest and worship - but you don't necessarily have to do it on Sunday - it could be any day that you set aside for it. We should all rest - the body and mind need it, whereas worship rests the soul.

So you think that "entering his rest" is a reference to Sabbath-keeping? The Sabbath is still the Sabbath, but it was made for man, and not vice-versa. Why did the Aposltes violate the Sabbath by plucking grain?

The day people worship on is the least of christianity's worries. You have different interpretations of the bible leading to sects within the christian church that range from extreme right wing to the far left, you have some accusing others of not being christians and you have inter religious hatred. I would concentrate on fixing those first
