Her father the King has devised a way to drive off suitors. There are three boxes. One is made of gold, one is made of silver and the third is made of lead.
Inside one of these boxes is a picture of the princess. It is the job of the suitor to figure out which one
There is an inscription on each of the boxes. One and only one inscription is true
Gold box says: picture is in this box
Silver box says: picture is not in the gold box
Lead box says: picture is not in this box

yeah thats tough I'll keep thinking. I have it , it's in the lead box, The lead box says it isn't in the lead box not true
The gold box says it is in thethe gold box not true
The silver box says it is not in the gold box which is true
Only one is true but it does not say the one that is true is the one with the picture. It is definetly the lead box.

Just a guess from the clues but i think The picture is in the Lead box.
Assume the gold box inscription is true, then the silver is a lie, the lead is true. But there's only one true inscription.
Suppose the lead box inscription is true, the picture is in one of the other two. so if the picture is in the gold box, the silver is false and the gold is true. Again, we'd have two true inscriptions. So suppose the silver box has the picture, then the silver inscription is true. Again, two truths.
Suppose the silver inscription is true. Then the gold inscription is false, and so is the silver because thats where the pic is right?

The lead box. The silver box is the only one telling the truth. Therefore the truth is that the picture is not in the gold box. The silver is telling the truth. The gold box is lieing: the picture is not in the gold box. And the lead box is lieing because the picture is in fact in the lead box.

If it were in the gold box there would be two truths, same for the silver, it's in the lead.

gold says its in this box- which mean this silver box
lead simply says i dont have it.
and silver gave it away by saying its not in the gold box, and that i am also the "this" box the gold one is talking about
hay, hold on. i dident see the part where you sayed only one is true. but i think you question is messed up. this is a philosophy question. pritty much first year stuff. aks there.

the lead box ..most suitors would pick the gold or silver boxes and would be wrong because they are thinking of money that they wont get with the lead box

i think...picture is in the gold box...b'coz....it have given the inscription that the pic. is in this box......others are given that pic. is not in that box...or etc.
