I have noticed that when I do a scan of either a virus or spyware scan and it show the folders/files it is searching i see programs/files that I once used a long time ago and deleted but still seem to show up. I did a search through all my folders (and hidden folders) but nothing ever comes up. can someone please tell me what i might be able to do or where to look for these files that are still on my hard drive. thanks.

ok i will clarify that they are not viruses but old programs i once used and deleted a long time ago but for example i use spybot and at the bottom it shows the files it is searching in and that is where i see the names of the files that i deleted a long time ago and was wondering how i could find them seeing as they are apparently on my hard drive still.

Basically these files set themselves as 'ReadOnly', 'Hidden' file attributes. You can enable your Windows Explorer to display Hidden files as well. Exercise caution when you elect to display system files too.

Also, your spyware should have File System operations like 'Move to Quarantine'/'Delete' etc. That should make things more simpler.

Well it doesn't matter if your using windows because they have a IE file that saves everything the only way to get rid of them is to search IE on the search that they have and go through every one of the folders and delete what you want other than that the police can find whatever they want anyways because of Forensic's that can be done on computers hope this helps and also you aren't doing anything illegal

it depends what program you are using but usually it tells you where the viruses are, and if you brouse to that location you can usually find them. they could also be hidden files. to view these. go to tools, folder options and find the button that says show hidden files.
I MUST WARN YOU. IF the files are in your windows folder, the may be part of your system, and if you delete them you could crash your computer. but any thing that is NOT in the windows folder is ok to delete. if its in the windows file, use your virus program to heal it, or fix it with that some how. I use a program called AVG free. i think its one of the best virus programs there is.

some secret agent ware, trojans or maybe viruses and worms are setup to be puzzling to delete, yet in case you'll discover their honestly region on your hardpersistent you could virtually continually delete them using a shreader form application ! there are quite a few accessible the perfect I actually have found is termed "east tec eraser" which could and could also completely get rid of previously deleted files from yourpersistent so as that even the FBI can no longer retrieve them
