I am not talking to Ruler Lady Clone. How boring? I am talking to the real Ruler Lady who just became a conservative Prebyterian.

Because it's the word of God and the Bible says so.

For the same reason that it is important to a blind person. What might be foolish to you is wise to God. God is powerful enough to make his word known whether you can read it or not.

1 Co. 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

You see, many people, whether they could read or not, would memorize the scripture.

De 11:18 Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.

Ps. 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

The common people would hear the Word of God in church or a church like setting.

Luk 4:16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

Col 4:16 And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea.

What about the people that haven't heard the Word of God? The Word is written in their hearts.

Heb 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

Preachers/priests were hired by the Church for the purpose of telling the illiterate populace what the Bible said. Of course, those preachers did not reveal EVERYTHING in the Bible, and they STILL don't. Some sermons are candy-coated to make them seem more palatable, and others are totally swept under the rug. Most modern Christians, having never read the ENTIRE Bible for themselves, would likely be STUNNED to hear about some of the stuff that it REALLY says. The Bible contains significantly MORE violence and sex than ANY other book, movie, or videogame.

Ezekiel 23:19-20
Yet she increased her prostitution, remembering the days of her youth when she engaged in prostitution in the land of Egypt. She lusted after their genitals – as large as those of donkeys, and their seminal emission was as strong as that of stallions.

Judges 3:19-25
And Ehud reached with his left hand, took the sword from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly. And the hilt also went in after the blade, and the fat closed over the blade, for he did not pull the sword out of his belly; and the dung came out.

Deut 25:11-12
If two men, a man and his countryman, are struggling together, and the wife of one comes near to deliver her husband from the hand of the one who is striking him, and puts out her hand and seizes his genitals, then you shall cut off her hand; you shall not show pity.

2 Samuel 6:6-7
And when they came to Nachon's threshing floor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it. And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.

Hosea 9:15-16
All their wickedness is in Gilgal: for there I hated them: for the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of mine house, I will love them no more: all their princes are revolters. Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb.

Well if you can't read the bible and you are illiterate, then someone would have to read it to you. Otherwise, there would be no way for someone to read it. How else do you get messages across?? I guess the illiterate lose out, or have to learn. How else are things passed down generation to generation?
