Ours cost approx £6000. We had the hotel, 3 course meal, champagne, the big frock, flowers, photographer, approx 70 guest, another 20 at night with music, travel for the night guests and day guests to get home and that included our accommodation for a couple of nights. Everything we wanted and then some for well under the 'UK average' of about £12k I believe!! Make a list of what YOU guys want, if you want to let the parents put their lists together then think about taking a bit of financial input from them too but we did this ourselves and had the best day ever. Enjoy yours.

This is a tough one. My husband and I got married for less than $500 and that included the price of my dress. We went to city hall and was married by someone there in a room especially for weddings. We placed some music on a CD player, which we brought. Flowers (my bouquet, 1 corsage, 2 boutennaires, 1 wrist corsage) and a small cake were done by a local grocer. My dress was bought at an outlet store; my husband's attire was dress slacks, sport coat, shirt & tie purchased at Sears. We distributed a couple of disposable cameras to the less than 10 people present as well as bubbles & confetti.

We invited those closest to us, have pictures to savor the memories of the day and saved the top of the wedding cake to eat on our 1st anniversary.

I did the traditional "something old, something new, something borrowed & something blue".

We met on the Internet 7 years ago, have been married for 6 years, have a 4 year old child and couldn't be happier or more married than couples who spend thousands of dollars.

Best wishes! The money you can save from having a simple, yet elegant wedding can be put towards the honeymoon, a down payment on a house, or the start of a nice nest egg.

My husband and I had a very small (about 60 guests) wedding with just a short punch-and-cake reception afterwards for around $1,000. I believe that in the USA, the current average is about $20,000, however.
We kept a budget by cutting down our guest list, by doing a lot of the decorations ourselves, skipping the meal at the reception, and creating a CD mix tape to be played on the sound system, instead of hiring a DJ. We also asked some talented relatives to take pictures instead of hiring a professional photographer, which cut down on the costs drastically.

It depends on how many people you want to invite and what you serve them. Food and alcohol are the most expensive components of the wedding reception.

Tips:
*If you want to serve alcohol, serve only beer-you can buy it by the keg.

*Don't have a sit down meal, have a buffet and serve sandwiches, relish tray, chips, meatballs etc.

*Print your own invitations-- Go to a craft store (Hobby Lobby, Michael's, Garden Ridge) and buy the invitation kits. We did this, bought them on sale and spent only $60.00 for 250 invitations. If you have them printed for you invitations will be at the very least a dollar a piece.

And for the record, weddings are still important these days. Yes, some people go over-board, but this is your wedding. It is about the love you have for your partner. The reception is a way of thanking your guests for sharing your day with you.
Good luck!

I had a really nice wedding at a restaurant, in one of their banquet rooms. We had the wedding and reception in the same room. We had a sit-down meal, no alcohol, a glass for each of champagne for the toast - 60 people - and our wedding cost about $3000. I live in Southern California, and this was only last January. It was all quite lovely, I got so many compliments on what an elegent wedding we had. Hope this helps... good luck!

There really is no right answer to this question. Weddings run between $100 and $100,000, and are just as fun and exciting.

I would suggest you and your fiancee play around with a budget calcultator to see what "x" amount of many can get you. Go to www.theweddingchannel.com and use (for free) their detailed budget calculator. This will let you know how much money you would be spending on food per person if your wedding costs, say. $5,000.

It really depends on a few things:

How big of a wedding (as in how many people)
Where the wedding is
How fancy you want it to be

Technically, you can spend as little as 1K or as much as a million.

Here in California where I live, 50-80 people wedding runs around 23K on average. Again, it depends greatly.

find out what your fiance has in mind. If you think it is unimportant, but your partner has always dreamed of swans, lace, roses and dancing, well, it could be a hard thing to let go of. There are many wonderful ways to have a beautiful celebration simply. It also depends on how far friends and family will travel to celebrate with you. If they have to stay overnight because the travel is too far, then treating them to dinner is probably something you should do. BUT, if your crowd is the back-yard barbeque type, then you don't have to feed them prime rib!
It is possible to spend anywhere from $10.00 per guest to over $100 per guest. It is possible to get a beautiful gown for $100.00, and a magnificent one for $1,000.00 and everything in-between.
If you have proposed, and she has said "yes" then work it out with her.

it depends on how fancy you want it and how many people you want to come. I have friends who have done it on $5K or less. Mine is going to be super small but quite fancy so it's running me a bit more . Just start checking around. Also, you can use sites like www.weddingchannel.com to do sample budgets.
