Is it better to buy a hard drive or a DVD camcorder

Also is is better to buy a DVD or mini DVD

My laptop will burn DVD's so my options are open, I just dont know much about camcorders - I need something that has alot of bang for the buck ! :) thanks

I was told a hard drive is better because you can "tape" up to thirty hours of video, also all you have to do to transfer the video is a USB cable. You don't have to buy or use memory cards or mini disks or anything.

I saw that in Costco they sell a pretty decent HD camcorder (JVC) for approx. $ 500
