trying to write a short story. what is a good sports car that goes 160 mph? what would it feel like to drive that fast on a straightaway? would the car shake or vibrate? would you feel squashed back against your seat like when a plane is taking off? would the steering wheel shake? any details would be appreciated. thanks!

Depends. If you are in a car that is designed to go that fast, it is pretty exhilarating and definitely focuses the mind, but is not necessarily scary. If you are in a shitbox like a Chevy Cavalier anything over 90 will scare the crap out of you. For the purpose of your story the car matters quite a bit. The location is also important, the autobahn or an empty highway out west is vastly different from a road on the east coast. Whether the character has done it before is also very significant. Generally the driver will get tunnel vision to varying degrees depending on their level of experience.
In answer to your specific questions, the steering wheel and car will not shake if it is designed to go that fast and is set up correctly. You won't get pushed back in your seat because if you are already going 150 then you are probably not accelerating that fast unless you are in a top fuel dragster on it's way to 270. An appropriate car would be a Porsche 911, Ferrari, or AMG Mercedes. Unless there was something wrong with the vehicle it would not shake and would be fairly comfortable.

It depends on what type of car you are driving and how smooth the road is. If you are in a Viper or other care that is designed to go fast a good portion of what you are experiencing is what you are seeing because the ride is not real shaky, but when you hit a bump in the road it seems to take a long time for the car to settle down after hitting it. At that speed you travel a city block in about 2 and a half seconds anything close to the side of the road is a blur. You only feel squashed back when accelerating. It is an absolute rush knowing that even a tiny mistake would cause a serious crash; probably fatal unless you are strapped in a race car with a roll cage on a track.

I do not know about 160 but i have done 120 the wheel does shake you get knocked around a lot essayer by the wind everything howls even if the windows are up things buzz by and if your talking about like on the road or highway the cars that are going 70 seem like they are not even moving you don't really fell squashed you could go with a tricked out camaro or mustang in your story or any of the other high end sports car Ferrari and the likes oh you notice bumps in the road lot more at that speed like if the road is rough it a lot rougher the faster you go so for the speed you are talking about the road would need to be fairly smooth um that's all i can think of but if there is anything else you would like to know feel free to contact me at shoguncarsguns@yahoo.com

I took a Dodge Viper out on a test track. I managed about 220km/h. It was modified and I could have kept on going, but 220km/h was enough for me. I can't even describe the experiance. It was beautiful. I don't think anything was shaking as becasue the car was ment for speed and modified for more. and since you are moving the same speed as the car you don't feel squashed, only when you accelerate.

1979, had a dodge 426 himi. did 163.124 It feels like the car is only hitting the ground every once and a while. Almost like flying. With a heavy metal car like that I felt like I had very little control. It was all i could do to keep it in a straight line. It was a better high than any drug. To tell you the truth, it was even better than sex!

I went a hundred and ten in my 4 cyclinder Hyundai Scoupe -- it became exhilerating, yet somewhat frightening it felt like the motor vehicle became going to shake aside. i do no longer understand how briskly i've got been in my Mustang (5 liter) because of the fact it purely registers 80 5 mph, i've got had the needle pointing down -- i've got additionally been in my pal's 5 liter Mustang whilst he hit the Nitrous -- it incredibly is plenty greater exciting going at intense speeds in a muscle vehicle which could cope with it -- style of takes your breath away -- it incredibly is a huge feeling -- i admire going rapid!

The feeling would be different to a passenger than to the driver, if i was a passenger it would feel scary and if I was the driver I would probably feel a little hot and sweaty and you would hope that the steering wheel was not shaking at that speed.

try it your self, it's better to write your own experiences. I do. Do not let anybody tell the tale.
