The main cause of global warming is burning fossil fuels so obviously we need to stop doing that.
The first step should be to ban the construction of new fossil fuelled power stations and build nuclear power plants instead (that's what it'll take, wind and solar just aren't up to supplying the amount of power we use no matter how much we conserve electricity).
Transport fuels are going to be harder to replace and might have to wait until we can switch to hydrogen although trains can run on electricity so that just requires you to have clean electricity and large ships can be nuclear powered if need be (wind might work but that would make international trade dependant on the wind which is something to be avoided if possible).
Some things I wouldn't do:
Build lots of wind turbines - They're a waste of money that could be better spent on fission
Have a nuclear phaseout - The last thing you want to do if you want to solve the problem of global warming
Ban air-conditioning - It's needed in hot climates and we should just have clean power
Keep the third world in poverty - If anyone has a proposal for solving global warming that requires that then you should ignore them (interesting that that's the proposal a lot of prominent 'environmental' groups have).
Lower the standard of living - We don't need to if we use nuclear power.

Actually the temperature of the earth has increased less than 7/10 of 1 degree (C) from 1880 to 2005. That is an increase of about 1 degree (F) in 125 years. You may choose to believe that is global warming or you may not. Source: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/2005/2005cal_fig1.gif There are numerous charts all over the internet showing the same. Some say that 1 degree is enough to impact the global climate, others say it's not. Most proponents of global warming think the earth's temperature has risen much more than that and don't even know that it has only risen by 1 degree. But the charts do not lie as do the proponents on both sides of this issue. The average temperature in the Antarctica is 109 degrees below zero. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antarctica#Climate It seems to me 108 below (one degree warmer) is still pretty cold and not enough to melt anything. But there are those that say it will.
Back in the '70s all the hype was about global COOLING and another ice age was coming. I remember that they blamed pollution for that too. They said that all the pollution was darkening the skies and not as much sun was coming through so the earth was cooling off. It took many years to discover that they were mistaken and it was all just hype. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_cooling So when someone says, "the sky is falling" don't believe everything you hear on either side of the issue. There are Spin Doctors galore out there.
Most of the time people will form an opinion and not really be informed about the subject with which they become so opinionated about. So it's best that you not form your opinions from other's opinions, (as in this forum) but on the facts presented. (Many do not provide any proof or links to prove their point, just their opinion.) With that said we do have a responsibility to do our part by doing whatever is within your power to keep our planet alive and well.
I hope that helps...

There is really litte we can do to decrease global warming either individually or collectively. Pre-industrial global temperature maximums have been about 3 degrees C above current temperatures, and there is no reason to believe the maximum of the current trend will be any less no matter what we do.
The unusual rain in India has nothing to do with global warming. The Ice on the poles is still there and while its extent will decrease as the Earth warms up, it wil probably still be there at the end. Rather than try to stop the warming, I would prefer to use our resources to deal with the consequences.

If I could afford it, I would build a solar panelled roof on my house, erect a windmill in my yard, and buy a electric hybrid car....cost ~$100,000+. Then I would generate enough clean electricity to run my house, and maybe give some back into the grid. I would drive without polluting the air with combustible gas emissions, like carbon dioxide and other toxic gases. But that is out of my budget range.
Another solution is, to live without having to drive a gasoline burning vehicle, and without electricity in my house. That would result in me losing my job for not showing up and then my house for not being able to pay the mortgage ... I would never ever generate carbon dioxide gas again...only when I farted.

The ONLY thing that will save us is to control population. If every single one of the good recommendation listed here were followed, we might reduce the emissions and damage by what? 40%? 50%? Pick a number.
A 50% reduction would only work until we double the population. Then we are worse off than ever.
The population is growing exponentially. All the emissions and pollutants and resource depletion and you name it grows exponentially right along with it.

To decrease global warming we should not use perfumes because the air filled in perfumes cause harm to ozone layer, less burnings we should decrease pollution and plant more and more trees because one tree can clean around 60 pounds of pollutants from air every year

We need to control the discharge of carbon mono-oxide from transport utilities and improve Green belt development to reduce the global warming. All the transport utilities should be obtain the pollution clearance certificate.

Massive large-scale governmental and industry investment in alternate energy and more effective (in terms of cleanliness) filtration and manufacturing process. Within a couple of years we could be on pace for improvement.
