The fire place gave out no heat at all. We really need the space

I think you should incorporate a bar into the entertainment centre, with a mirrored back, lighted glass shelving, a fold out countertop, maybe even a couple bistro/bar stools. a front of glass bricks with backlighting would be good.track lighting or recessed pot lights are a great option. cabinet doors with inset leather panels.

I would have kept the fireplace and set up the home theatre in the basement or other area. Remember nowadays you can hang a large widescreen tv on the wall, with wall speakers next to it. Being that you've done what you've done, make sure you get good audio equiptment to fill the empty space. Tower speakers, center channel speaker, surround speakers. A quality stand with style helps. Lastly the right size tv. Think it through .
