You aren't "responsible" to spend money. Many do though. Your job is to ensure that the child recieves proper religious education. In the event of the parent's death, you may choose to adopt the child if there isn't another family member available to do so. Even if someone else does, you are still responsible for the religious education. This position is largely symbolic of late, but some take it seriously.
For good quality clothing for babies, check out this shop:

I don't know if they are on line, but you could at least call, and they might be able to give a referral to someone in your area.

I went into a Spanish neighborhood with my sons godmother and we found this cute white suit everyone loved it. Nothing wrong in saying this but the fact is more catholic live in Spanish neighborhoods and they have shops that cater to Baptism, and such. If in Culver City there is a shop on Sepulveda south of Culver Blvd.

You will need to contact the specific church to find out your responsibilities. They can vary. The godparents for my children did not need to purchase anything.
You might be able to find good quality children's clothing at upscale stores, though most of the time I did just fine with regular department stores. You will discover, however, that there seems to be a dearth of cute outfits for boys when compared to what is available for girls.

God parents have no use in a child's life. And there is nothing God in it if you are talking scripturally.
First of all, infant baptism is unscriptural. In view of the fact that ‘receiving the word with one’s ears’ and ‘doing penance’ precede water baptism, and that baptism requires the individual to make a solemn decision, it is apparent that he must be of an age to do these things himself.

The godparents for my son weren't expected to purchase anything for my son.
I've always liked Kohl's for kids' clothes...but I don't know about Baptismal clothing. Sorry!

Baptism is for when the child is an adult and has accepted Jesus. If you are catholic you are so deceived. This is all I will say. Here is a website that tells all.
