I just started this job where I basically work on the electrical side of automobiles so my hands are often getting scraped and cut. The guy I work with has been there for about 3 years and he showed me his hands and they are all dry and rough. It has gotten really cold here like below 0. I can tell that my hands are starting to get dry because they are turning red around the knuckles and they hurt like hell. How can I do what I do at work and be able to prevent from having dry rough chapped hands??

Take Olive Oil..and place a bowl in the microwave for about 40 seconds...to get warmish hot...soak your hands in it for at least 15 or 20 minutes a night..before you go into the shower. It will take care of the severe dryness and the cracking around the knuckles and has no smell to it...during the day use any of the heavier creams...udder balm, corn huskers, or gold bond extra dry skin....do an oil treatment every night...give it a few days..you should see a big improvement in your hands...Hope this helps..Take Care.

An "old fashioned remedy" is Corn Huskers Lotion. You can get it at any drugstore, it was used by alot of guys that had jobs that made their hands dry, rough and cracked. Still works good today.

The most simple and basic solution is to use hand lotion. Use a heavy lotion or hand cream every night before you go to bed. And then keep a small tube of hand cream with you at work. This will also help your circulation.

Are you allowed to wear gloves? Also, use emollient oils for moisturizing. If you find them too oily, use a cream for extremely dry skin. Moisturize a couple of times per day. Drink plenty of water to also heal your dry skin from the inside.

Use nothing but vitamin E lotion. One time hands where so chapped and sore and bleeding I could not move them and I used some plain vitamin E lotion constantly and it helped alot. good luck!

A&D ointment or pure vitamin E oil- has to be pure, not mixed with vegetable oil. Greasy, but it works. Apply generously, especially at night, and wear gloves over it.
