Hey, ok, so my question is about my adorabley cute (slightly crazy...I think she has it in for me) cat. She is about 6 months old now and I don't think she has yet gone into heat...though I know it's coming soon. When we first got her I gave her this small camel toy thingy and now she carries it around in her mouth and takes it for a little walks. Lately though, I noticed that everytime that she is around it she gets....Weird. Non-stop meowing, rubbing against it, almost as though she is in heat. But she doesnt do that when she is not near it so I have doubts that it is heat. My mom thinks she is just attatched to it but I think my cat is a little too attatched, if you know what Im saying. (Note: She isn't fixed yet, but she is an indoor cat and we don't have other cats. We will of course get her fixed within this month.) Is this just normal? Is it heat? Pre-heat? Is she getting frisky with it? What are your thoughts?

AWww, she is just precious and looks exactly like my "Ozzie" cat (who was the biggest clown you ever wanted to see, and he was stolen----keep her INDOORS at ALL times, please). This behavior sounds to me like yes, in fact she is in or is coming into heat. Best guess: coming into heat. You may want to move up that date to have her spayed to the day before yesterday because you are about to experience some mighty sleepless nights, and days , too. You WILL definitely KNOW it when she is in full heat, as she will not quit all the hollering, meowing and whining. Get her to the vet this coming Monday, please. You will be VERY glad that you did, and why "stress her out", un-necessarily. Best of luck to you.

Oh what a beautiful kitty she is! Gorgeous! Gorgeous! Gorgeous! And I think it's adorable how she's grown attached to her toy. My 9 year old cat, JoJo (rest in peace sweet girl) was so attached to this Tigger doll she had, she used to carry it all around the house with her. It was too cute. I wouldn't be so sure that there isn't catnip in this toy. It certainly sounds like it. Other than that, it sounds like she may be going into heat. You really want to spay her before her first heat, otherwise you will need to wait for her to come out of heat before you can get her spayed (adds complexity to the surgical procedure otherwise). The last think you need is for her to learn how to "mark" or spray and many female cats that are spayed late can aquire this undesirable behavior. And the caterwauling that accompanies her heat will make you crazy. I would schedule her for spaying as soon as you can. 6 months is the perfect time for a female. Good luck.

When she was first carrying it around, it was probably very early mommy instinct (like a toddler playing with a baby doll). Now kitty is learning big-girl instincts and is, in essence, experimenting sexually with her toy. My boy cat used to do this with a blanket he had from when he was little. At first he would just sleep on it or try and drag it around (it was big) during playtime. Then he started getting 'frisky' with it about a month before we had him fixed. Afterward, we got him a new blanket which he doesn't do that to, except for rare occasions. We're not sure what triggers it off either, but to clearly answer your question, yes, what she is doing is either heat or pre-heat, and she is infact getting frisky with it.

Well its possible, and very likely she is going into heat if shes 6 months. Most females have there first at 4 months of age. Good to know shes getting spayed. As for her obbsession with her toy, does it have catnip in it? was it catnip coated? Otherwise cats have prefrences just like people. It maybe that she feels this toy is like her prey. Its keeping her pre-occupied and not bored. Nothing wrong with the behavior. If you dont like it you could try buying another toy or get ping pong balls and toss em around cats LOVE them

She's at the age where she does need to be spayed, but I think I'd rule out being in heat as the cause for her toy werdness.
My cat once got very attached to a toy. She'd bring it everywhere with her and even cry when she lost it. It was just a round puff ball.
We'd refer to the toy as "baby". As soon as she heard "baby" she'd frantically try to find it. It was like a security blanket.
I think your kitty has just found a personal favorite thing. She might grow out of it, or her attachment might lessen with time. If not, no real harm done unless she ends up loosing it. Mine was quite depressed when she lost her "Baby".

Sounds like this toy has catnip in it. Does she get fiercely playful afterward? Catnip effects cats differently, but if she's all cuddly with it and especially if she's washing the toy, it's probably got catnip in it. I've had cats all my life and I've never had one go into heat at 6 months old. Earliest mine have was 8 months.

My cat gets like that with a mouse toy. It just sounds like she is attached to it. Most cats won't get "frisky" with toys. They will go for males (cats or humans-- mine attacked my roommates boyfriend when she was in heat). You will have no doubts when your cat goes into heat, trust me. lol. Its one of the most annoying things about owning a cat that isn't fixed.

Your cat is undoubtly cute. First thing dont get rid of that toy.
I have a cat who is now 7 almost 8. We got her when she was 6 wks. We got her a 3 pk of toys the day we bought her home. One of them was a squeaky baseball toy that she loves. She still has it despite the fact that it is old. She loves it like its her kitten. She carries it around and gives ears peircing meows, but not every day. Its like a companion to the cat. They love and care for their favorite toy. Never take it from them. Once my cat shreddded newspaper and buried her toy in it. She came back for it in a month. Dont move it unless its in a threatining spot. DONT SEPERATE YOUR KITTY AND HER TOY! and dont spay her

Honey, she is in heat. She may also be treating the toy like her kitten. Please consider getting her spayed. She will be much more comfortable (and you will not have to deal with this every 6 months!). The vet can set up payment plans with you, if necessary.
