I don't have a lot of knowledge on how Islam spread in Indonesia, Malysia and many other countries....
But I know one thing that it spread through Muslim traders.....
The people overthere were very influenced by Muslim's actions..
And that is how they started converting Islam.

Muslims didn't invaded Indonasia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Philippines
They converted when they saw muslims praying to One God.
Muslim teach them and they learned.
Same thing happen in china, which has more muslims then in middle east.
Same thing is happening in US where every 1 out of 4 people are converts.
Islam is the fastest growing religion in US and europe. It's growing by 230%, and it's mainly because of media. People want to do more research on Islam and they convert.
