No but it might be a good idea, my hair is long enough and that might cut down on the knots. That's why people used to do it.

It depends. If my hair is dry or nearly dry I don't because it turns into this puffy mess in the morning and I don't have time for that. But if my hair is wet because of a late shower I will. It keeps my pillow dryer and prevents some frizz from forming as it dries over night. So it can help but it can also cause more problems than the braid is worth dealing with.

If you don't braid it tightly and you don't use tight bands to hold in place it's not so bad. Make sure it's kinda loose and it really doesn't matter. The breaking or thinning can be caused by having it too tight at the scalp, or twisting it too hard, or any kind of metal clips or tight hairbands basically rubbing or cutting the hair.

If it helps for some reason, do it, just don't overdo it.

No, and you shouldn't. Your hair needs to relax. Braiding puts a lot of stress on hair causing breakage. If you're worried about tangling during sleep, put on a cap.

If you want your hair crimped...little braids all over are very helpful. You can make your hair wavy by braiding it, just put in more and tighter braids when you want it very wavy.

Yes, it makes my hair smooth but wavy in the morning. But i have to braid it very tightly for it to work right.

your hair will only end up wavy with a wierd bend at the bottom where the hair tie would be. and it might even cause more knots than before if you roll around in your sleep. try just a low ponytail, that would work better.

when I was a kid my hair was very long, so I braided it every night
that way it didn't get tangled
and gave it a nice wave as well :]
it's too short to really braid now
