First, it was an obsession of cleanliness, than an obsession of aligning things perfectly, obsession of doing things the exact way, obsession of getting the perfect deals, obsession of collecting everything, obsession of over simplification, obsession of typing perfectly, or writing perfectly, I can go on.

Currently, I am trying to create the perfect video game collection, and it's critically hard.

I have Atari 2600, Colecovision, NES, SNES, N64, GCN, PS1, PS2, PS3, Sega Dreamcast, and xBox. All my games, manuals, and boxes, must be in perfect, mint condition, or I get rid of them. This obsession has made me sell multiple games that were not fit for the perfect collection, and go out of my way to buy other games that like they would fit in.

It is hard to explain, but it drives me nuts. It's also very expensive too.

If there is anyone else there that thinks they might have it worse, let me know.

I can't say I have it worse. I dont' know. I am OCD as the psychologist informed me I am. I collect things in similar fashions, from DVDs to books to collectibles, to an extent that it hurts my budget. It is hard to stop sometimes. I never thought of it as OCD because usually I fill collections I want or enjoy, but I often I don't watch/read what I get. And that makes very little sense. But I understand what you go through. I have OCD related to neatness and cleaning (which varies) or germs and eating utensils. Ick!!

you sound like my hubby! he's a "collecter" he also makes lists. before he was medicated he mopped the ceilings. he once spent an entire day at work scrubbing a dumpster.

I'm mostly the other kind of obsessive. I get a thought in my head that wont go away and drives me nuts. squierrels took up residence in my walls one spring and just about lost my mind. For some reason I got it into my head they were gonna chew through the wall (which was entirly possible) and get into the apartment. for some reason this REALLY freaked me out, even though I'm not afraid of squierrels at all. I just could't stop thinking about the squierrels. Sometimes all I can think about is that every one I love is gonning to die. And I'm gonna die. I can't stop thinking about people i know in their coffins. its fun.

Also I will not eat in a buffet style resterant. I dont think this is weird but other people do. i think it's just smart. that stuff sits there all day...and people are touching and breathing on it...ew.
and i do that writing thing too! I usually have to re write things atleast 2 or three times just to leave a note for someone.
between my hubby and i we have alot of anime and book that look nice sitting on the shelves!

After I quit drinking I went nuts cleaning and straighting. I got on meds and I got the hell out of the apartment I had been going around in circles in. It took a while because I didn't see or recognize these habits other people would comment on. Stuff I thought was normal. I don't spend so much time on being perfect and I take more free time for myself with others.

I remember a story of a girl who made sure she had no contact with the outside world due to germs all she did all day was clean clean clean her house top to bottom scrub her hands no one was allowed in her house she quarantined her foods when they were delivered when he mother came to visit her she had to park her car on the street and was not allowed to get out of the car and the girl would wave hello from her window. Go see a doctor they can help you with this and it'll be less expensive than all those things your buying

it is possible that it could get worse if you do not stop yourself..try and tap into your natural will power..

when you start to feel obsessive, simple stop everything and take beep breaths, clear your mind and talk yourself into doing something else and that you are ok..

If anything, go see a counselor and have them set you up with a doctor that can give you some paxil..

Paxil works for OCD and does not sedate you or menatlly mess with your head...

i don't have it that bad. well, yes I did. it so bad I wanted to kill myself.

But I got help. therapy helped. finding a good therapist can be TOUGH. also the right meds helped. for me that is risperdal and effexxor. love them!

another thing that helped was dealing with my real problems. OCD is a medical/brain issue, but our unhealthy patterns of thinking and living make it worse.

cognitive behavioural therapy! it works.
