I absolutely agree w/ you. No they are not supposed to check your receipt. Unless they witnessed you shoplifting or someone else did they are not allowed to do that.

The walmart that I used to go to did that for a short time and I was so offended by that I talked to the manager and told them what that looks like from a customers point of view. They shouldn't treat their customers like shoplifters. They didn't even check my bags or anything they just looked at my receipt and put a mark on it but anyways I always shove my receipt in my purse and I hated having to dig around for it. It was an inconvenience especially when there was a lot of people trying to leave. They eventually changed that policy here and don't do that anymore. But if you just ignore them on the way out what will they do. The worst would be call the police and you didn't do anything wrong so you wouldn't have anything to worry about.

I don't know where you live but here in SD the Best Buy and Wal-Mart do not do that. Sam's Club does, they have someone standing at the door when you go out, you show them your receipt, they put a mark on it and you go. I don't particularly like it but I have the option to not go there.
You know whats worse then that, the stores that have the arch bar security that beeps if you go through it with supposedly something that hasn't been payed for. The damn things beep and everyone looks at you like, ah ha, and you did not steal anything but they don't know that. Total embarrassment, most the stores ignore the beep because they know they malfunction.
PS If you refuse, they probally would bring security out, search you and then they will look like a fool because you didn't steal anything, least ways I hope you didn't.

Legally the save can refuse to do corporation with everyone. except they discriminate on a foundation fairly prohibited by regulation, they can set any guidelines they choose. Being observed by someone legally prohibited from procuring the product isn't a secure classification. It doesn't make a lot experience from a company perspective, yet there are not any guidelines on both fringe of the challenge.

i do not feel insulted, seeing as though best buy has been ripped off before i think they have a right to look at receipts. my cousin worked there and they had flat screen tvs stolen from the store, so because of that they need to implement the receipts. Dont be offended they are not after you, just a general check with everyone just relax

If you don't like the policy don't shop there. It's for everyone's protection because even the nicest looking person in the world could be a potential shoplifter and that drives the prices up for the rest of us honest shoppers. It's not that big of a deal unless you have something to hide.

I have never heard of either one doing that unless you set off the security system, in which case, they have every right to check.
The only time its happened to me was when the stupid clerk didn't swipe my DVD over the demagnetizer and it tripped the security alarm.
Is there a law that says you have to shop there?
Look at Costco. You pay to be a member there and they check everyone.

I never really feel insulted just annoyed.
I understand why they have to do it though. I wouldn't refuse though if I were you. They'd probably tell you its store policy...which I'm not sure if it is or it isn't. I know that they've been told to do it by their managers and such. I have friends that work there.
Trust me the employees probably don't care either way if you stole or not...they just wanna do their job, make the day go by faster and go home. They don't want to hear you ranting on about something they were told to do. Try and not give them a hard time about aye?

I never thought of it before from that point of veiw. I was never mad at Wal-mart, more mad at the people who stole that caused this to happen. The funny thing is though, they only ask for my reciet for items not in the bags. So all a thief has to do is steal something smaller, and place it in a bag before he/she gets to the doors.
But yea, now that you mention it, is is kind of insulting. We are purchasing items from them, and they want to check? But I do still see why they do it.
I do wonder what would happen if you refuse. I dont know.

Hmmm... And I suppose you feel insulted at security checks at the airport. Or if they ask to see your drivers licenses at the bank to cash a check. It is to prevent crime, not to make you feel insulted. But you may be right, they should stop checking everyones receipts and let the thieves have their fun. Then when prices go up to make up for the theft loss... you will have no right to complain.
