Maybe because people tend to be someone that they are not online.
Maybe it's harder for men because more men than women go online to meet someone so the odds are not in their favour.

Stay away form "women" who contact you from another country out of the blue. Watchout for their extra sweet lines (scammers).
I've written to women. But, they're still not grown up. It's like they're still in high school. Never assume that older is more intelligent or more mature. I don't get it. They post a profile. You write a simple hello, what's your name ? What's your favorite book ? You wait and wait and wait. Then you get a first response in like 2 months. By then, you forgot who they are and why they're even writing to you.

Because not everyone is honest online. People make up stories to meet others and when you do meet them, it's a big disappointment. Now I know some people that have met some great people this way,. you just have to keep trying until you find a good one.

because personal interaction is a need. Dating online just makes being apart harder. Humans are social animals. If you can work through it though, your relationship will be stronger in the end.

like the previous responder said, you just haven't met the right person yet...i am getting married next year and i met my fiancee online...i did not meet her on a dating website...i really don't believe that those websites actually work...they just take your dough. I would suggest that you avoid the really popular websites, ie, myspace, yahoo, dating sites that advertise on TV...try the lesser known websites, like friendster.com, hi5.com etc....and just be yourself, be honest..that is the only way that you would meet someone genuine...it worked for me, it might just work for u!
