look through every picture of every tattoo ever to make sure it has never been done before, or just draw something (no matter how bad it may be or how much you "suck" as an artist) you would be suprised how much the simplest designs from the clients hand can help me in a design concept. if not, get a friend that can draw to sketch something up for you. last but not least, find an artist like me in your area that will sit down free of charge to draw up a design with you until you like it. but know that you are then involved in a sort of verbal contract with that artist for that piece of art. you need his permission to get it tattooed by another artist.(out of respect. he spent his talent on your art and now will not be compensated in any way). most important! find an artist that specializes in the style of each piece you get. why not have the best artist do the work?

Lower abdomen should be fairly painful, so first think about how big you want it. Once you do that think about what things you like ie. animals, cartoon characters, sports, religous icons, etc. Get something YOU want, not something sombody else tells you is cool. Don't get a tattoo until you know for sure what you want. Tattoo magazines are a great placce to get ideas

Something with meaning huh? Well how can a load of strangers give you ideas that are meaningful to you? Only you can decide what is meaningful, to some people their butterfly tattoos are deeply meaningful, it's just not your taste, that's all. Sorry but this is something you have to research and decide for yourself.

honestly.... there are very few original ideas left out there. almost everything has been done. so the best thing for you to do is to think real hard about yourself your personality and your life. you don't necessarily have to get something that "means" something to you but it is a starting point. i'll tell you about my tattoos for instance.

the first tattoo in 2006 that i got is a koi. i'm asian so i decided to go with that theme. i had wanted one for probably three years or more. they symbolize good luck. they struggle up the waterfall of life and once they reach the top (heaven) they turn into a dragon. lotus flowers also are considered to be lucky and they also struggle up from the bottom to surface in the water and are so beautiful once they emerge

i got a skull on the top of my right foot, not to be morbid or "trendy" but because it conveys the raw emotion that i felt when my coach in high school was murdered. and also when a friend in college died in a car wreck. i never got to really say goodbye to either of those people. so the skull is a memorial to them and it is to remind me that death is just around the corner and i should make every minute count.

my newest tattoo is on top of my left foot. it is in honor of my family heritage. my mom was born in korea but never knew her birth mother because of... racism basically. so i got a takeout box with traditional korean art on and around it. and i got a fortune cookie because i love them so much. this tattoo means the world to me because it is a part of me, my mother and my grandmother whom i have never met.

you could get a fancy tree with leaves blowing off into the distance. or you could get something crazy like an octopus (not the ugly kinds).

Think of something that you could never possible ever live without and that you have a passion for...and go on that.

get something that appeals to your personality. i got a tattoo on 9/11/06, i got the pisces symbol, because that represents who i am. just think of things you like and what says "this is me".

Yeah...DON'T GET ONE.

The surgery to get it removed is pricey and very painful. And trust me you won't want this embedded on your skin for life, you'll have many occasions where you have to worry about covering it up completely. The tatoo will not look cool forever even if you do decide to keep it, it ages along with your skin, it will fade into ugly colors and look like an ancient wrinkled drawing...on your body.

A tatoo is forever. You'll wish it was gone much sooner.

if you have kids, that tattoo will get stretched out, and might not regain it's shape afterwards. if you don't have an idea of something that's meaningful to YOU personally, then you might regret it. think about what's meaningful to you, and come up woth several ideas. take them to a respectable tattooist, and he/she can help you out. if it's your first, that area will hurt like a b*tch. don't get one unless you have thought long and hard about it. good luck.

I have one there too, next to my belly button. It hurts bit, but nothing you cant handle.
Get something that has some meaning to you, and something tribal. For example, it you like butterflies.....get like a butterfly with a tribal design. Or if you believe in horoscopes, get your sign in tribal design.
