Almost certainly he's telling the truith -- he really doesn't feel when he has to go, and his bladder physically can't hold on long enough for him to wake up enough to feel it. I still had the same problem off and on when I was 13 and I slept right through it, the first time I had a clue that I needed to go was when I woke up in an ice cold puddle of urine. Believe me, this is a HUGELY embarrassing problem for him and he feels much worse about it than you do, and he would probably do almost anything to make it stop if he could.

Lots of the answers here have given you good advice; have him checked out by his doctor if you haven't done so already to make sure nothing is seriously medically wrong, and please do NOT scold or punish him for this, he really can't help it. Most likely his bladder just has not grown quickly enough to cope with the urine output of his growing body during the night. It will almost certainly catch up on its own eventually, but there are also some medications and behavioral therapies (wetness alarms and bladder muscle exercises) that can sometimes help speed up the process. Ask your doctor about these, or get a referral to a urologist if you need to.

Most of all, reassure him that this is NOT his fault, and he's not alone -- a LOT more other 13-year-olds still struggle to control their bladders at night than you would think; it's just that none of them usually talk about it in public either! Good luck -- I hope both for your son's sake and for yours that he's able to grow out of this soon!

Steps:
1. See a doctor
2. Limit fluids, get enough rest, eliminate constipation
3. Make sure he is not a snorer
4. Consider the treatment options
a. Enuresis alarms- probably not good for a teenager
b. DDAVP- good
c. Imipramine- works best for teenager
If these meds work, he would stay on them until the wetting stops. In most kids, this happens by age 15. Some kids, who are untreated, will continue to wet as adults. I would start treatment sooner rather than later. I have known college kids and adults who refuse to marry because of this problem.

As others have said, you should consult a doctor. Sometimes adolescents lose bladder control because their muscles haven't caught up with their kidney output. It's a temporary condition, but very embarrassing for the child. There are medications that can help. But you do need to find out if there is something more serious going on.

Take this kid to the doctor and have his bladder and kidneys checked out. Sometimes this happens when a person has problems with this stuff and he may not have control over this.
My friend had the problem until he was like 16 and they said his bladder was smaller then what it should be and put him on some meds that helped out. Hope this helps.

Take him to the Dr. my grandson had a hormonal imbalance and they put him on medication and it stopped. He will grow out of it after puberty. Some kids grow faster than their bladders. I feel sorry for his embarrassment.

Ask his doctor. There are real, medical reasons that kids wet the bed into their teens. Please remember that this is very embarrassing for him and it frustrates him more then it does you. There are medications that can help. Also, try and make sure he has no fluids after 7pm and uses the restroom before bed. Please see his doctor about it, they can help.
