About 15 years ago they came out with a new chicken pox vaccine. It is called Varivax. Most babies get this vaccine at 1 year to 2 years of age. Check your shot record. If you got it as a baby you may not get chicken pox. It was true way back that most everyone got it but not any more. You should have had 2 vaccines for varicella during your toddler years. It is very dangerous to get chicken pox as an adult. People who have had varicella will likely get shingles when they are older. Luckily, they have just come out with a vaccine for that. Medical science advances every day. Stay Well!

I didn't get chicken pox till I was 30 when my son brought them home from kindergarten. Believe me, "childhood diseases" are better had by children because I was never so sick in my life. I had pox on top of pox and pox on places on and in my body I didn't know you could get them (the whites of my eyes, under my tongue, and in little bits of my body better left not discussed). My grandmother (who was in her late 70s at the time) said I looked more like someone who had smallpox) What a lot of people don't know is that you break out internally as well. People have died form the chicken pox when it's affected various organs like the brain.

Many people get them and most doctors tell you to try to get them before you reach adulthood. There are problems associated with having them if you are pregnant. It can also be more difficult when you are an adult, the symptoms can be worse.
But, there are still people who have not had chicken pox. Let you mom know that chicken pox are in the herpes family. I'll bet she didn't know that.

It's possible to not get chicken pox, but at your age you should probably get the vaccine. Chicken pox is miserable when you're little, but as you get older it becomes more and more dangerous and the symptoms can be very severe.

I have to say no, everyone will not get them at some point in their lives. Both my children had mild cases of them when they were in grade school. I never had them at all.
