You don't make a financial judgment against someone, a court decides that someone owes someone else money and puts the judgment in favor of the plaintiff. Then it goes on court records and is reported to the credit bureau.

In Michigan under 3000$ - Small Claims court no lawyer needed
over 3000$ - Regular Court, lawyer needed
