my boyfriend is white and I'm mixed but look black. He's okay with our relationship and so am I and my family, but I'm worried about his. I asked him how his family would react to this and he said that his dad and his brothers wouldn't care, but that his mother would. I met one of his brothers and they seemed to just kinda brush me off in a sense and didn't make eye contact with me. Am i being paranoid and how should i go about this whole thing with his family?

Nah, my family is alot like this. My mom don't but dad does. My sister don't care (and is married to a black man) but the rest of the family would talk crap behind the scenes. It is REALLY REALLY SAD THAT THE WORLD IS THIS WAY. I am white (22 yrs old college sr) and I THINK BLACK WOMEN ARE SEXY AS HELL AND NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL. The best thing I can suggest is get to know the brothers since he said that they wouldn't care. Maybe it is one of those things that they are uncomfortable too, but come off in the wrong way (However that is still NOT OKAY OR ACCEPTABLE). Sometimes people have to warm up to others. You aren't being paranoid. They put it out there as far as their behavior. The mom will be a challenge, but over time, SHE MAY SOFTEN HER STANCE IF YOU STAY TOGETHER AND SHE GIVES YOU A CHANCE AND SEES HER SON IS HAPPY. There really is nothing YOU can do but be good to him and go on. SHE MAY NOT EVER CHANGE and if she doesn't THEN THAT'S HER PROBLEM and she can go to H.E.L.L. FOR IT AS SHE WILL.
I want to date interracially REALLY REALLY BAD but (like I said a minute ago) my dad is really close minded. I AM GOING TO, BUT HAVEN'T BUILT THE COURAGE UP YET. Maybe we can talk about stuff. I would like to help you and ask you some questions too. My email is ms148592@reddies.hsu.edu and my name is Mike. GOOD LUCK!!!!

I'm actually in the same situation you are, except that I'm white, and my boyfriend is black. Even though people claim race isn't an issue anymore, for some people it is, especially where I live (in the South.) My best advice to you is to just try to express yourself and who you truly are as much as you can, so people can look past your skin color, as well as his. It might be hard, and you might get some weird looks (I do), but if you're dedicated to each other, you both can move past it. After all, it's just a skin color :). Hope I helped, good luck with your relationship and meeting the rest of the family!

you dont, if you and he are happy then that all that matter. his family will come around if they want what best for there son;but
really is really does not matter,it about how you feel and if they
have a problem with it then it there and there alone. life is
to short to deal with nonsense. society will judge you and sometime the biggest judgement is the family that right there
with you. but dont let this stress you out. love is about how
you both feel , so live your life for you and let god be with you
good luck to you.

It's natural for you to feel this because of so much racial tension in the world. Just be careful and don't let anyone abuse you.

Just do your thing, and whether his family does care or not shouldn't matter.
