Hi - I have been dating this great guy for 5 months. He works in a kitchen and was just promoted to sous chef (yay!). However, this means even more hours...14+ a day...he is exhausted all the time. For anyone who is a chef and understands...how does one make a relationship work? We both like each other, but I end up feeling rejected sometimes... I don't want to break up, but want to feel better about things... any ideas? How do you do it? Thanks!

you seem to support him for what he does try getting into the bath or shower with him when he comes home it is hard when you spend that long in the hot kitchen under pressure on your feet .... just tell yourself often that he is in the relationship because he cares about you most likely and make the best of what you can get from it as it is likely to be that way for a long time. that's a tough life to live.he also has to step up to the plate and help you feel less neglected he can do that lots of ways but he really has to want to so if he doesn't better give the whole thing some more thought every man needs a women wh understand what is going on in his life and if supportive and that goes just as much the other way around.

When you meet someone and want to be with them as much as possible it is a very intense feeling and that is something that cannot be for the two of you if he has to work such long hours.

All you can do in my opinion is stay as busy as him and when you are both free to be together make the best of it.....He is growing in his career and all you can really do now is praise him and back him up....and cheer him on.

If this is his dream job then you can share his moments when you are together and realize that his work must come first.
If the time comes and you want to marry this might be the preview of things to come..it's something to consider.

Sincerely,

Hoo boy... good luck sister! It helps to have an equally strong commitment and level of involvement in your career or other pursuit. Then you're on equal ground. There's nothing you can do about the hours or his exhaustion. Remind him that he owes you a back or foot rub every once in a while. But when they truly love you, regardless of their job, they always find the time. We're passionate creatures.
