Last night, while sleeping, I woke up briefly for about a minute. I usually wake up anywhere from 5 to 6 times in the night, so nothing seemed out of place. Out of nowhere, though, my chest and legs involuntarily clench extremely tight, chest raised into the air, legs raised in the air, balancing on my buttocks. For about 6 seconds, it felt like every single muslce in my body was paralyzed, and all I could see was pure white. And just as soon as it came on, it went away. There were no lasting effects. There was also no sensation or indication that this was coming on. It was instant.

No history of seizures. No history of anything at all like this. What could this possibly have been, and should I worry about it happening again in the future? The only meds I'm on are 6-mercaptopurine and Asacol for my Crohn's disease, and various vitamins.

Scarey. That must have been very disconcerting.

I have no answer for you, but I know I would be reluctant to sleep until I knew what the heck that was.

i've had this exact thing happen to me. it was extremely scary. i'll tell you what i believe it to be after reading up on it, but of course, you may chose to believe something else. basically, when we sleep at night, our Astral body goes to the inner (astral) worlds (which is related to our "dreams") and sometimes our physical bodies are suddenly awaken, and our astral body hasn't returned to our physical body. it's apparently normal and happens time to time, and it isn't harmful. also the same kind of thing when you're falling asleep at night and suddenly have that hard jerking feeling or like you just fell into your bed (if you've experienced that). hope that helps some
