Women often think this means that you aren't "together" which means you aren't getting laid with her but you aren't supposed to be getting it anywhere else either. The assumption is that you "might" get back together and you are on hold.
To me, it means you're allowed to revert into single mode.
A woman tried this one on me ONCE. When she called a week later and asked how I was doing. (meaning was I miserable enough waiting for her to grace me with her presence).
"Uh... sorry, got to go, reservations, dinner for two in 1/2 hour and I can't find my tie. seeyalaterbye!
5 voicemails between that chat and midnight. "Bob, I'd like to get back together". My response; "Y'know, this break was a good idea. I think I need to pursue options" (tears) Hey, it WAS your idea.
Breaks are for fools who can't commit to a relationship and cannot commit to a breakup either. They are a BS "no man's land", like putting down a $100 deposit on a $25,000 car. It's a way of leveraging something with a fraction of it's value. DON"T be a car sitting on a lot. Other buyers are out there.

sometimes when things aren't going so well or one person feels not right in the relationship or there not sure anymore about how they feel towards you .. they like to cut loose and say lets take a break from one another this will give the person a chance to perhaps openly date others and also use this time to see if they really miss being away from the other person.

sometimes people just need a break from each other. A "break:" can be 2 things. either its a nice way of saying its over, and give you false hope. Or it means they really need a break or some "space" to figure out if thats what they want

You will have to ask your gf what her def of 'break' is. You don't want to pull a Ross & Rachel if you care about her. BTW, IMO a break means you are broken up for a pre determined time period to evaluate your lives and decide if you want each other in them.

Basically it's that you aren't together but most likely will get back together. It's another way of saying I need space. I think it's stupid personally, you are either together or not and none of this break up and get back together 100 times, it's stupid.
