I wouldn't be surprised if Mormon scholar Hugh Nibley has discussed the origin of the name "Mormon" in his book "Lehi in the Desert." Unfortunately I do not have a copy with me at work. I will tell you that the only reason I have ever heard that some authorities wanted Church members to make a bigger effort to use the whole name of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is because we believe that Jesus Christ is the head of His own church. Mormon would have been a major prophet in the New World, but Jesus Christ is still the one who is our Advocate with Heavenly Father, and as the Second Member of the Godhead Jesus Christ would obviously take precedence over Mormon. No one has ever utterly "rejected" the use of the word Mormon - it's just members have been encouraged to use the full name with Jesus Christ's name being emphasized - as it is His church. Have a happy day, and I send you a gummy bear.

First, i might want to concentrate of doctrines you learn outdoors the church represented to be the doctrines of the church. lots of those are not any further fullyyt perfect - adequate to tremendously incorrect - highly because you study them "someplace." Milk earlier meat. walk earlier you run. it truly is my answer. have you ever prayed about and recieved an answer about the e book of mormon? once you may and function performed that, you'd be waiting for different doctrines. even as that is admirable you're so diligent in analyzing, as a convert to, and a lower back missionary for the church i might want to say i imagine you somewhat want first of all the fundamentals earlier you bypass any further. Is the e book of mormon real? became joseph smith a real prophet? is this extremely God's church? no matter if that is, then the church's doctrines are real. If that isn't any longer, then they don't seem to be. once you recognize those issues, and then are baptized and shown and recieve the present of the holy ghost, you'll learn a lot a lot swifter than you'll from the position you're literally. yet when that isn't any longer real....keep your self the flexibility. i'm declaring....that is time so that you may hit your knees and pray obviously to get an answer and then make a committment to save on with the answer you recieve out of your Heavenly Father. so some distance as God once being a guy - i might want to in common words talk about for relaxing, as unusual as that seems, once you're a catholic/protestant, you've gotten faith Jesus IS God and for this reason - convinced - he's a guy - with a tangible body - and once lived on a planet or maybe had a mortal mom. Milk earlier meat. Line upon line. have you ever recieved the first truths you've been given? (The e book of mormon is yet another testomony of christ, that is the Lord's church, Joseph Smith became a prophet) If no longer, do not anticipate to recieve more effective. if so - then act upon them and save on with the Lord. 2 nephi 28:30 For behold, to that end saith the lord god: i'll provide unto the youngsters of adult men line upon line, concept upon concept, the following a touch and there a touch; and blessed are those who hearken unto my precepts, and lend an ear unto my counsel, for they shall learn knowledge; for unto him that receiveth i'll provide more effective; and from them that shall say, we've adequate, from them will be taken away even that which they have.

Mormon is the name of the prophet in The Book of Mormon after which the book is named. According to the book's title page and the account of Joseph Smith, Jr. (who claimed to be the book's translator), Mormon was the prophet-historian who engraved the book on Golden Plates. Most Latter Day Saints believe that Mormon was an actual prophet who lived in the Americas circa 400 AD. ...

"Mormon" is a book and a persons name, not a religion. The name "Mormon " has no more meaning than the name "Jeff." LDS folk reject that name because it is and always has been a misnomer. They are Church of Jesus Christ - Latter Day Saints.

3 We believe that through the aAtonement of Christ, all bmankind may be csaved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
4 We believe that the first principles and aordinances of the Gospel are: first, bFaith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, cRepentance; third, dBaptism by eimmersion for the fremission of sins; fourth, Laying on of ghands for the hgift of the Holy Ghost.
5 We believe that a man must be acalled of God, by bprophecy, and by the laying on of chands by those who are in dauthority, to epreach the Gospel and administer in the fordinances thereof.
6 We believe in the same aorganization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, bprophets, cpastors, dteachers, eevangelists, and so forth.
7 We believe in the agift of btongues, cprophecy, drevelation, evisions, fhealing, ginterpretation of tongues, and so forth.
8 We believe the aBible to be the bword of God as far as it is translated ccorrectly; we also believe the dBook of Mormon to be the word of God.
9 We believe all that God has arevealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet breveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
10 We believe in the literal agathering of Israel and in the restoration of the bTen Tribes; that cZion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will dreign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be erenewed and receive its fparadisiacal gglory.
11 We claim the aprivilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the bdictates of our own cconscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them dworship how, where, or what they may.
12 We believe in being asubject to bkings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in cobeying, honoring, and sustaining the dlaw.
13 aWe believe in being bhonest, true, cchaste, dbenevolent, virtuous, and in doing egood to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we fhope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to gendure all things. If there is anything hvirtuous, ilovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
