I would like to know every step of the process, starting from Five Points in Atlanta, and ending in Midtown.

Cheapest and quickest are mutually exclusive. Cheapest is to walk. Quickest is to charter a jet from Atlanta to any of the New York area airports and take a stretch limo to midtown.

If you insist on hand holding every step then stay in Atlanta; it'll be easier all around.

Yes Manhattan is in New York. It is one of the five boroughs of New York City along with Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island. A lot of tourists assume that Manhattan is the whole of NYC, and therefore refer to New York as the area known as Manhattan without including the outer boroughs. This can be offensive to someone who may live in Queens for example.

From the Atlanta downtown connector, Take I-85 North until it ends. Take I-95 north until you get to New Jersey. When you see signs for NJ turnpike, take it North. When you drive past Newark airport, begin looking for the exit to the lincoln tunnel. Go through the lincoln tunnel, and you will be in midtown manhattan.

This trip will be approx. 18 hrs

Book the quickest flight to any NYC airport from any Atlanta airport, catch a cab to your local Atlanta airport, then catch a cab from the NYC airport to your destination.

That's it! It's not that hard!

May not be the cheapest, but Bus~3 days vs. Plane 4 hours makes a big difference. If you want cheap, don't go; if you want to get to your destination, put it on a credit card and go.

Take the Greyhound bus from Atlanta to NYC. But look at the route and only buy a ticket to the first stop on the way. This will be cheaper than buying the full fare to NYC. When the bus makes its first stop, simply stay on board and stick it to the man.
