In MS WORD, how to disable the grey dots that appear when I press space? Thanks.

Go to Tools/Options/View tab and go to the "formatting marks" section (in the middle) and uncheck Spaces. You should be all set.

You must have hit the show/hide button. It is on the Standard toolbar, left of the % sign. It looks like a backward P.

This is a toggle - press on / press off.

It comes in handy when you want to reformat and need to locate spaces, tabs, paragraph marks. It shows/hides non-printing characters.
