Boy, do I understand this question! I'm a writer, but as I get more successful, public speaking becomes a bigger and bigger part of my life. I'm a writer because I hate standing in front of people and talking. I'm too good at choking on my feet!

That said, pick a topic you care about and you know about. Speak about what you know and care about.

How much do you remember from speakers you listen to? If you're normal, less than 1 percent of what was said. So, relax, nobody's really paying you any attention any way, even if they're looking at you.

It always helps me to move around. That lets me identify the one or two people who are actually listening. Then I talk to those people as if I was standing next to them instead of standing in front of the room.

Tell people about what I know, identify the one or two people who are listening and talk to them, remember nobody's listening anyway. Those are my secrets to surviving public speaking.

And you will get better with practice.

Picture the people in the audience as being only in their underwear! Or view the women as bald and the men as hippies.
Just be careful that it doesn't tickle your funny bone too much.

I use to find that rolling a marble or rubbing something smooth in my hand would help on important presentation as well.

I find it's best not to even look at the people. When I make a speech i never once look at the audience. i always keep my chin up and look at something above the audience, so that way I avoid eye contact and it also looks as if i'm confident in what i'm saying.

KNOW YOUR WORK AND INFORMATION!!!! it's a must. even actors and actresses have fears talking in front a crowd. if you truly believe in what you are presenting and know the material you'l do just fine. before you know it, it's becomes natural.

This is an old trick; just imagine everyone is naked. It
is hard to be fearful when you think that about your
audience.
