Venice Girl is on track. But I'd lean towards Bruce floors being at fault. If the planks were installed tight, how could the installer possibly make them fit any better? Wood does expand and contract and the manufactures always want the material installed at the optimum warmer temperatures to avoid the planks expanding later and buckling.

Well, they previous Answerers have the right idea, but are using the wrong words to start with. Wood will expand in heat and contract in cold weather. Your floors were put in when it was warm and they were at their "biggest" size. Now that it's cold, they have shrunk. It may not be the installer's fault. One would like to believe that he knew what he was doing and installed them properly and as tightly as possible. If they looked fine in the warm weather, then, it wouldn't be his fault. If that is the case, it would appear that Bruce didn't properly treat them to stop this natural expansion and contraction process. The problem with this is that you can't "fill" the gaps that there are now or reset the boards, because, when it gets warm again, then they will buckle from expansion. It would be difficult to say whether replacing the floor with other Bruce products would correct the problem because, how would you know whether you just weren't getting more of the same improperly treated flooring. Then again, if you live in an extremely cold area, this may be an unavoidable problem. You may wish to check with the installer, ask him if he has had this problem with other purchasers of Bruce products, what his suggestions might be (you'll get more assistance with being nice than mean) and, if the installer feels that the wood you bought is an "anomaly," you may need to contact Bruce to see if they will resolve the problem.

I agree with the going to the police and/or child services. Your friends and especially their mothers can do more, by going with you so you have someone to help. I know that you view them as your parents, your family, but this isn't helpful, not to you or your sister. I was spanked for a serious offense in my family, or had my mouth washed out with soap. Never had worse than that. My grades were basically Bs, and B pluses. You said straight As which imply a very good IQ. For me, that says that it's your head arguing with your heart. Your head is screaming at you to get out of there, but your heart is saying "but this is your family, your blood." Your sister is also your blood, and this sounds like it is making her into someone that won't worry as much about hurting others in the future. You may have to take photos of the aftermath of one of the beatings so you have proof upfront. Maybe your parents were raised this way so they believe it is right. But I don't think it is right, and neither do you if you posted this question here. Please, go for help from professionals. Ask your friends and their moms to go with you, but even if they choose not to, go anyways. Before it is too late. Because accidents can happen, and "I didn't mean to do it" doesn't fix the broken pieces. As for religion, I agree with you. I was raised a devout Catholic, but I don't follow the faith. A higher power out there, yes, but not such a set belief as a religion. You should point out the relatives who share the same view as your parents, or that you woud be uncomfortable staying with, as this may effect where you stay in the meantime. And saying such a thing as that they went through a war so a beating is nothing is ridiculous and wrong. An excuse to themselves if nothing else, but it still stinks. PS - If you want to talk more, let me know. Either way, I wish you the best.

wow, usually things get too close an buckel up. sounds like the installer, because he should have done it right in the first place. if you did it, you would have a problem, but if someone else did it, he is to blame.
