I tend to agree with this but I don't think it is all that practical.
The underlying issue for me is that were a woman to go through an abortion she didn't want because she could not expect financial support from the father, she would likely be guilt ridden afterward.
There is no way around the fact that pregnancy involves women much more than men. So while philosophically your point has merit. I don't think it would work out in real life.

That's an interesting perspective......
However, a woman having an abortion usually is because the guy dumped her and she's alone. Not always - but most of the time - or the person is very young and is not capable of supporting the child or may be 'in fear of her life' with her parents.
I think legality is the issue here. Although it is not my belief...... a 'human being isn't consider a child" until it's born. That means the pregnant mother has a choice. However, once that choice is made, and she has a CHILD, the child then has a father.
I'm sure that there are papers that can be drawn so that the natural father relinquishes all liability to the new husband and the new husband adopts the child. But the child will need support to live - that's where the dad will be forced to kick in.
Why should a woman be forced into an abortion because she got pregant? It took two...... and that's the responsibility of both people. Once that baby is born, it is then a US Citizen and parents are liable. Some people have to grow up faster than others.

There's a flaw in your logic. You assume that the man has "no choice". He has the choice not to have sex with a woman who may become pregnant or to use protection against pregnancy or to have a vasectomy. In most cases, it's unlikely bghe didn't realize pregnancy was a possibility.
Also, child support is not about the mother, it's about the father's responsibility to the child. That's one reason guys don't get to "opt out". The other reason is one of societal choice: why should society pay (welfare) for a child when the biological parents can support the child? And yes, it's a PARENTAL responsibility. If a father has custody the mother is subject to the same support requirements.
Finally, I don't see what child support has to do with abortion. Do you think women abort children rather than risk paying child support? Or because they're afraid men won't pay? Your argument is poorly constructed or at least poorly explained here.
BTW, do you really think people are PRO-abortion? That is, as opposed to pro-choice. I can almost hear the axe you're grinding...

i never really looked at it that way. and i pay $309 a month in child support.
but here is the thing. i am pro choice. but my choice would never be to end the life. i think that it is the woman's choice. and i can understand where you are going with this. but it is also the man's choice to use a condom, or to not have sex to start with.
when you have sex, you are taking a chance on a great responsibility. and if you are not ready to pay for that responsibility then wrap it up or dont do it. if it were not for the fear of having to pay child support we would have an epidemic in this country. most people that use a condom use it to prevent the baby from being concieved. without the child support a single mother has no real chance to survive.
It may be the woman's choice, but it is the man's responsibility.

I agree with you... I dont respect men who walk away from their responibilities... I never would. I dont care if the woman was the nastiest person on earth, I'd never abondon my children.
I am apposed to abortion, but if we have to accept a woman's right to choose, the man should be able to choose also in this regard. I think its even worse that the man doesnt even have to AGREE to an abortion for a woman to have it. I dont know if I could forgive someone who willingly killed my child. it takes 2 to tango... if we have to have freedom to choose, it has to be on both sides.

Abortion and adoption are only acceptable if both parents agree. If either wants to keep the baby, then they both have a responsibility to look after it until it grows up.

What if the woman also gives up that same right?
Who takes care of the child?
No, both are responsible for their actions.

Your question is filled with non-sequiters. Some one has to be responsible for the financial support of the child be it society or the parents. In most countries that responsibilty falls on the biological parents, thats all.

We are not pro-abortion, we are pro choice....
And men have ALWAYS had the option of signing away of their responsibility in favor of money. (until DNA tests, they were free to say---"not MY baby")
Sorry Eddie Murphy, but the Spice girl KNOWS!!!!!
Women have 3 options.......abort, carry the child to term and keep it, or carry it & give it away. Because men are usually such azzholes, women need all the options.
All men know this from birth, the signing away thing...don't do it!
my opinion....
