I heard from my cousin, who lives in Melbourne, that there’s actually a hole in the ozone layer. Unfortunately,it locates upon near Australia, so the sunlight there might cause skin cancer. Is that correct? I supposed it should be somewhere else, such as the Eastern America, where there are so many factories!..and smoke from chimneys causes global warming, defintely! Australia’s air quality is not that bad, I believe!
I’m going to live in Sydney next year, so I want to confirm if it’s correct then I’ve got to prepare for long T-shirts and trousers once summer comes… please offer at least a source of ur answer, whether u think this is correct or incorrect! Thank you a lot!!

G'day,

Tony_B is right. It is not as dangerous as nuclear radiation, but still something to worry about.

Quite alot of scientists mention about hole in ozone layers, although I hear from a news last year that the hole is significantly smaller due to world's effort to lower the use of CFC gas that created the hole in the first place (not b'cos of global warming's smokes pollution... that's a separate issue altogether). I am including a weblink from Wikipedia in regards to Ozone Hole if you are interested to know what it is all about.

In regards to skin cancer, the 2nd & 3rd weblink will tell you all about it and what to do to prevent it. It is taken from the The Cancer Council Australia. Again... it is something to worry, but please do not make it affected your way of living, since there are plenty of ways to enjoy the sun and Australia, while keeping yourself protected. It is not as hard as you think and we all (well... pretty much most of us) are doing it.

Enjoy your stay in Sydney and welcome to Oz :)

this is true, there is a hole above australia in the ozone layer. some theories are that it is from the pollution from Asia. we do have the highest rate of skin cancer in the world, but i am not sure if that is linked to the ozone layer, it might be other factors like outdoor lifestyle, mild weather all year round etc. there are precautions you should take here in Summer- 30+ sunscreen, hats, long sleeves, sunglasses. also, try and avoid the direct sun between 10-2 daily, the hottest time.
having said all that, I have lived here all my life and have never had skin cancer, and the air quality here is still very high. i am sure you will be fine... check out these websites

for other ideas...
good luck and enjoy Australia!

There is no hole in the ozone layer above Australia. The major area of ozone depletion known as the ozone hole occurs over Antarctica in the late winter and early spring. When the Polar Night Vortex, a stratospheric jet stream, breaks down in late spring, some of that ozone depleted air moves north and on one ot two occasions it has reached Tasmania. Generally, though, the ozone hole is no closer to Melbourne than Singapore is.

There is a problem with ultraviolet radiation in Australia but it has nothing to do with the ozone hole. Australia lies between Hobart at 40°S and Darwin at 10°S. Northern hemisphere equivalents would be Rome to Sierra Leone or Philadelphia to Panama. Most of Australia is in the tropics or sub-tropics.

What is of concern is the solar angle. When the Sun is almost directly overhead, the radiation comes the shortest route through the atmosphere. At higher latitudes the solar angle means that the radiation passes through a greater depth of the atmosphere. The more atmosphere the radiation passes through, the more UV radiation will be removed by the ozone layer. Brisbane in mid summer with a fully intact ozone layer above it still gets more UV radiation at the surface than Hobart with a 70% reduction in ozone above it.

Take the sun seriously in Australia and Slip Slop Slap (slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen and slap on a hat). You will have a great time without putting yourself at risk. You can check the UV forecast daily here http://www.bom.gov.au/weather/national/charts/UV.shtml
At this time of the year we are mostly in the "extreme" range but it has nothing to do with holes in the ozone layer.

Australian shepherds have a variety of of capability. If that capability isn't channeled into something then of direction they are going to have too lots capability to pay interest. How many times do you walk him and for the way long? I actual have an pit bull mixture, he additionally has a great deal of capability, and is 5 months previous, I actual have all started preparation with him and the only way he will pay interest to me is that if I take him for an hour long walk first. walk your canine for a minimum of an hour earlier you initiate attempting preparation. he remains a domestic dog additionally and is purely not totally mature till he's over a three hundred and sixty 5 days previous...then his interest span will strengthen. As for pulling on a leash, I propose making an investment in a mushy chief head collar. they supply you administration of the canine head and to that end help in preparation a canine to not pull. yet they on no account harm the canine and that i in my view desire using those than choke collars or prong collars in preparation.

Australian health authorities have been pushing since early last year for young children to get used to wearing hats, sunglasses and suncream,so there might be something to it.
