Your registry has been altered. My research suggests that most people having this problem have it due to a virus. Are you sure the driver that you are using isn't infected with a virus that is making changes to your window's registry? The reason is so that you can't open the task manager to shut down the virus process.

So far as MCR has advised, I don't think it makes much difference if you say Alt Ctrl Del or Ctrl Alt Del inasmuch as you hold and press the Ctrl and Alt keys down then press Del, or, press all three keys simultaneously.

Are you sure it doesn't work? For some reason or other, somtimes I have to do this several times before it finally catches.

1st of all you can press "ctrl+shift+esc" instead of "ctrl+alt+del"

2nd there are many 3rd party software apps that do the same thing, or repair task manager including -

XP emergency utils

Process Viewer

ProcessXP - by Microsoft & Sysinternals, probably the best

Shift-Ctrl-Esc will also pull up the Task Manager.

If you want a more powerful Task Manager, try Process Explorer - available on my freeware site - http://www.missingbytes.net
