i was subscribed to one of those weekly magazines and payed the first payment for it (you had to pay the total amount within 3 payments) anyways i payed the first one and then i didnt pay the next one. i noticed that the magazines stopped coming and so i thought maybe its over. well a few months later aka now im getting so called collection bills from the magazine for the total amount of the magazine sub. telling me that once i pay my sub will be reinstated.. well i dont want to get them anymore anyways so if i dont pay will this affect my credit? has anyones credit suffered because of this? im thinking if i didnt recieve them anymore its not like i really owe them anything.

I will look at this another way. In dealing with credit I see this problem all the time. Two things:
1. You signed up for something and did not follow through
2. You said "I thought it was over". The ostrich method. You should have called them to cancell and settle any outstanding bill. I am sure they sent you more magazines than you actually paid for, which is not thier fault.
Collections, who knows? Like the others said is probably not going to real collections process as a bad debt.
My advice do not take anything for granted. Send a certified letter to the subscription office. 1. Please cancell my subscription, 2. Please send a bill marked final payment for the total I owe. Pay that bill and keep the check or money order.

never heard of it, I've decided not to get the subscription after I sent in the card and it's never hurt my credit. Besides, they don't have your social security number, I think they need that. Don't worry about the scary collections bills, they are not from collections agencies. When I didn't renew my subscription to Vogue, they sent me scary bills. They kept saying I was going to destroy my "good status" with the company! It's just marketing, don't give it another thought.

Write "cancel" on the invoice and send it back. I've never heard of magazines reporting to a credit agency.
