I was just wondering, when I mix my own concrete for a small slab in the barn, am I allowed to put dye in it, such as pink, blue or green it it. Does anyone know if it would work, or what the outcomes would be? Would the dye even stay in. I'm just curious.

Hi, *Lillian*, nice to talk with someone thinking outside the box. Yes you can color it, they sell a powder (dye) to mix with the concrete. I have made concrete around my swimming pool look like laid stone by using colored latex paint as part of the wetting agent (use paint for part of the water amount) In fact I used pink as one of the colors. It looks great. You are quite a lady!

The concrete companies I have worked for in the past have used a powder additive to tint their concrete. I was never at the site when they were actually mixing it, so I don't know the ratio to sq ft (or tonnage) but I know it is possible. I'd check with Lowe's or Home Depot to see if they would carry the tints. I think they will have them in the same area they have the fake brick and river rock outlines for poured concrete.

Good luck!

You know you're talking about unneeded expense with the dye right? Look you only need the top a different color right? They make concrete stains. you can pour you pad and smooth it out. The you can stain it practically any color you want and even cut intricate patterns in the floor if you want. Whatever you decide. good luck with you project.

You can buy coloring powders at your local masonry supply outlet. There is not a whole lot of selection of colors. Red which makes pink. and black and green. Shades and colors are decided by mix and amount of color added.

Have fun.
