Things get harder once people get into middle school and high school.
It's actually shocking.

I think it's fantastic. Nothing wrong with helping your child read a good book, then helping them compose a short report on what the book was about. It's better than them spending their entire weekend watching cartoons, playing video games, or just goofing off. Kids need to play and relax, but their little brains are like sponges and there's no problem with them learning on a daily basis.
If you feel you're doing half the work, let the teacher know that the assignment is beyond your 2nd grader's capabilities.

I feel really sorry for the kids I'm going to have (I'm in high school). It's going to be more competitive and worse than ever in like the next 10-20 years. It gets worse every day. Every year schools try to make things tougher AKA it means you learn more. Yeah right! It just means people cheat more. I'm so tired of this crap. The workload is more and colleges are harder to get into because more people are going!
Book report for 2nd grade??? That just sounds stupid. Book reports are for sometimes grade 3, and usually grade 4 and up. The books aren't even complicated enough to report though, so what would you say. "I like this book because it has pretty pictures?" They need to stick to the basics like writing sentences before they can do book reports.

It's a great idea, the book shouldnt be too difficult though, school is getting harder and harder so we need to prepare the younger generation for whats coming. Getting your child on good grounds in regards to reading and writing will greatly improve your life, you should help him, but not do all the work, get to work mom

Teachers assign students work in order for them to learn. Book reports are a great way to introduce young students to analyzing literature, a skill they'll be grateful to have as they move into middle and high school.

Don't do your child's work. Help your child.
I think it's terrific that a book report was assigned. Reading is fundamental, after all, and should be a joy, not a task.
