I have a German Shepherd and three Chihuahuas, now matter how big or small the dog, his heart is always to please you. For me the type doesn't matter, because he/she is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.

Without a doubt, the best dog to own and be around is a TRAINED DOG.

ie: I don't care what breed, just train it properly and I will be happy.

PS- To the moron who gave a thumbs down, you must be the jerkoff living behind me who owns the dog that sits outside day after day, even in the freezing rain, barking his poor head off for a little attention. If so (or simply one of those 'dogs don't need training' people) I hope your PC electicutes you and animal control takes your dog to a deserving owner.

Great Danes. Their personalities can't be beat. I also really like bloodhounds, as long as they are trained and kept busy. And of course mutts can be great- I have a shepherd/beagle cross and a mastiff/rottweiler cross, both rescues. THe three dogs total eat a lot of food and can make a mess with the water bowl, but they're well worth it!!!!

My favorites r Husky's, Labs, Short Haired Collies! MY husky was great 4 her 16 yrs!! She was 16 when she died (Husky's normal life span 12-14 yrs)! My collie was 14 when she died!! (Normal life span 10 yrs), & my Lab is 6 months old!! Out of these I would choose a Husky since she was my 1st dog! AS well as a very good watch dog & gaurd dog!! She protected my mom, & I from stray dogs, a pack of wild dogs, as well as my nephews from leaving the yard. The oldest is 12 yrs old & the youngest was 1 1/2! She never got a chance 2 meet my 4th nephew who is 2 months old!! She would let all the boys lean on her as well a pull on her & never bite them. They could pull her hair, use her 2 help them walk, poke her in the eye, keep them out of trouble, wouldn't let them leave the yard in the front were we have no gate!! She slept under their cribs & would let us know they were waking up b4 they would cry & b pick up by the baby monitor!! My collie did the same but not as much as my husky!! We could walk her w/o a leach (only needed a leach when nephews would walk her) She would sometimes pull my mom BUT NOT the boys!! They would wrestle w/ her, run, play & she NEVER hurt them. If we wanted 2 correct them so would get between us & them 2 protect them from us!! She NEVER HURT ANYONE!! I got her when I was 11 & she was my best friend!! When she died it hurt me & still hurts as well as when my collie died 4 yrs ago!! I was closer 2 my husky then my collie c my collie was @ my dad's house & my husky lived w/ me!! Hope this helps!!

I really like golden retrievers. They're so friendly with people and other dogs, and love to go to the park to play and run around. They tend to get easily attached to you and are always by your side.

Golden Retrievers and Black Labs are our first choice. We have had 2 Golden's that have been great family pets and very loving companions. We currently have a black lab pup and an 8 year old black lab/golden mix that are wonderful. They are the best!!!
