dowry system existed because the father of the bride wanted to ensure a security blanket for his daughter, for her to face any marital problems to come, it was also her inheritence from her father.........which was rarely money, more as cows and chickens etc.

No -

A dowry (also known as trousseau) is a gift of money or valuables given by the bride's family to the groom's at the time of their marriage. It has been regarded as contribution of her family to the married household's expenses

As a structured & enforced system - definitely no.

But if the bridal party wants it more because of honouring tradition to the best of their ability, why not??? You can have fun choosing gift for your fiancee or the parents knowing it's will give them sweet thoughts of you.

A new take on the system is that the groom will buy the house and the woman will buy the furnishings, but I don't know if i would go for it.
