Ah... well in most states its already child abuse to spank your kids. Not sure why. Spanking is different than beating and parents all have different ways of punishing their kids.

The government is already telling us that we can't do this, now they need a law?

Truthfully i am against the whole "no spanking" thing. For me it seems there is a HUGE difference between spanking a child on the bottom once, and beating them. Now if a parent was repeatedly striking a child over and over, then that is beating...and should not be allowed. However, if one of my children does something i need to make clear will not happen again (i.e one of them ran out into the street one day) i spanked them one firm hit on the bottom. No more was needed, but i do not consider that child abuse. Had i hit him over and over, then yes...illegal. I think people go overboard now a days...there is so much child abuse, they want to prevent it...that is great, but dictating how we parent is getting a bit much. Hopefully parents will use good judgment in punishment. As for laws, i don't think we need this one.

This is only my opinion but when I was coming up and we did something wrong and my mama felt that we needed a spanking then we got it. I think that kids now days should be spanked if they need it, but I dont mean just beat on them all the time. That is what is wrong with the kids today, the parents are not taking the action needed where discipline is needed.

It's the government telling us how to deal with our personal issues. California wants to enact a law that forbids spanking for children under 4, I believe. I don't believe in whacking on a child, but there are those occasions where one hand on the bare butt is in order. I'd hate to be arrested for that. Thank goodness that days of the razor straps, paddles and switches are long gone. Most of our folks would have been under the jail at the rate they wailed away at us.

Spanking is just about the same as molesting your child because spanking is a sexual act. In sex history a person is spanked to make them more frisky and jumpy especially for young gay men. Look it up in Greek history. If you also look at child development, young children are going through the anal stage and have an unconcious pre-occupation with their butts. Spanking them excites that area stimulating a sexual response.

Is spanking just a way for parents with unconcious sexual desires toward their children the way of acting those desires out?

Spanking is always a big issue. What's sad is no one can respect another's viewpoint on it, and just "thumbs down" if it differs, and not if it's actually incorrect.

All the moms out there should really respect each other more.

Spanking is something that should be addressed. While I can sort of understand how some might consider it to be 'normal' because of their own personal childhood expereinces, and their beliefs that they turned out alright, I am against it and feel it's always detrimental.

IMO spanking has it's place. I would NOT ever spank as a penalty for hitting, biting or anything violent like that but spanking definatly has it's place . the bible says "spare the rod, spoil the child"
