Where does this feeling come from, and why does it occur?

I don't have high blood pressure, I am 19, and am in pretty decent shape. Usually, I only feel it when I'm almost done the cardio training part of the workout. Dunno if that helps. I didn't drink much water today, so that may be it.

BTW: There's no way I'm going to stop during a boxing-conditioning workout! It's not THAT bad, it's manageable. I'm just curious as to why it happens. Thanks to those with great answers so far!

I think it is largely from getting a big spike in lactic acid that forms as a by-product of metabolism when there is a shortage of oxygen avialable for the muscles. The lactic acid rapidly builds up in the bloodstream, and causes nausea. This is the basis for aerobic conditioning - higher levels of aerobic fitness means your body adjusts to increase blood flow to muscles during exercise, so they do not run short of oxygen during exertion.

It's a part of getting into tip top shape. When you reach this point your body is giving you a wall that you must surpass to get to your goal shape. Keep a trash can near you and if you feel the need let your nausea release itself. Once you get over this hump you should be fine and feel better. As a rule of thumb don't eat before a workout or gorge yourself and drink too much water before or during your workout. This will make you feel like throwing up no matter what. If you are going full throttle during your workout keep doing it. Your body will get used to is sooner or later. If you are boxing as a profession you may run the risk of over training though so listen to what your body is telling you. If you feel exhausted you need to rest or keep the intensity at a minimum for a workout or two during the middle of the week.

Probable reasons:
1) Overexercise
2) Your stomach may be over or under filled
3) You're brooding over something or thinking out something hard during the workout.
4) You've got high Blood Pressure

I'm a highschool football player and we have to do conditioning to get in shape so I know about this. The reason you sometimes feel nauseated or even vomit is because your body has trouble getting rid of carbon dioxide produced during the process of cellular respiration(burning sugars and fats) so it builds up and can make you feel sick. Usually you'll feel better if you breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth, and if you do throw up you'll feel better immediatley after.

From dehydration, drink more water, the night before. Plus its a small sigh that your body is telling you that you are close to your limit. Dont push it.

Sounds like your pushing yourself to hard, slow down and drink some Gatorade.

Drink extra water before work out.
Don't eat before the workout.
Warm up, go slower.

yeah, if this happens, i suggest to slow down or stop. when i've been running for too long my toes go numb and it starts to hurt. it's not my shoes tho... it happens with whatever shoes i'm wearing. anyway, they're right, water... slow down... walk a little bit... breathe... you should be fine. otherwise, see a doctor.
