I'm from Canada and have been to all of the provinces and, I must say, Prince Edward Island is one of the prettiest (I'm in
BC so a little prejudice as it's gorgeous here as well). I would heartily recommend a visit there - great beaches and wonderful people. However, I would also recommend you visit in late spring or summer. Have fun!

PEI is great, it's small and give a really nice rural feel even in the towns, the only place that get really touristy is Cavendish. Which I still love to go to as well. There are nice quiet beaches and wonderful scenery. Also if you are a fan of seafood or golf you can find some of the best in the world in PEI.
I try to go every year, I suggest taking a day or two to tour the whole island, there are treasures that can be found in every community. I like to use Cavendish or the capital of Charlottetown as a base and go on day excursions.

But don't rule out the rest of the Maritimes, I have to mention my province of Nova Scotia.

I went there on a road trip with my parents when I was 13 or so. I LOVED it! Well.... I loved the red sand, the Anne of Green Gables house and the food.... I hated the really long bridge (I am terrified of water and heights....) especially because we were stuck on it for close to 1 3/4 hours.

P.E.I. is a little touristy compared to the rest of the Maritimes, but is still beautiful.

Obviously, there is no point in going during the winter. Summer destination only.
