Not necessarily.
The idea that people are killing each other in the name of religion, while a popular one, is not the case. People are killing each other for resources. That's what wars are always about. Religion and patriotism are just nifty ways to sell a war. If religion were to go away, we'd still have jingoistic sentiment to rely upon.
Another point is that religion is of great value to a great many people. They take comfort from it, and it helps them to regard the world as a more predictable place.
Humans are biologically compelled to believe in something. It is a survival tool (it evolved, sorry). We all operate on the basis of belief, and much of what we believe we have not verified. So, religion is just another horse in the parade.

Just look at how well the countries that have athiests for leaders like China, Russia under Stalin, Cambodia under Pol Pot......
Just how much effect not teaching the Bible in school and the 10 commandments has done in our society.... :-(
If you want to learn about faith and God and Jesus start with
Matthew 22
36"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"
37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'
38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'
40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
and
Matthew 5
43 “You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’[r] and hate your enemy.
44 But I say, love your enemies![s] Pray for those who persecute you!
45 In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.

Religion gives us the motivation to keep going and progressing in a positive direction. Without it we would be no better than ants or any other hive living creature. I'm not religious but I can see lots of things in my every day life that have religion woven into them that keep me striving to better myself and keep living and bringing offspring into this world.
So what if your religion isn't like mine or someone else's. I can deal with it, its the fanatics that go way too far and lose themselves in the religion and dont get the messages from thier script. They take it way to literally and dont realize that we dont live in the time when these sects were formed. Fanatics need to get a grip and look at what we have become and have the potential to become.
When Christ said "this is my body" while handing out bread, his deciples didnt turn cannibal on him, they got the message he was trying to convey... Damn fanatics.

Yes! The world would be MUCH better off without religion!
Obviously killing would still happen, but the numbers would fall dramatically with religion gone!

People kill because of their religious beliefs. You need Jesus - not religion. He is the way, the truth, and the life.
John 14:6
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Yes. But then we wouldn't be the crazy humans we are. We might be better or we might be worse. Since humans aren't going to change any time soon, I wouldn't waste time pondering it too much.

No I do not think so. Then we would have to just kill each other for capitol gain. And think up another excuse for our actions.
